The world after AGI will require new economic arrangements, political institutions, and cultures. As AI becomes capable of performing our work better than we can, we will need new ways of distributing wealth, exercising authority, and finding purpose. People will have the opportunity to organize their lives around a deliberate vision of how they want to live. The same technology that creates this need gives us the means to meet it. Intelligence capable of research, planning, negotiation, and execution can help us design and operate new institutions. We can begin building the systems that will govern life after AGI with the technology that makes that world possible. At its simplest, an autonomous political entity is an organization founded with a constitution and a token budget. The constitution defines its purpose, principles, and rules. The token budget pays for the AI computation it uses to pursue them. Given the appropriate tools, the entity can research its environment, communicate with people, recruit participants, develop plans, and coordinate action toward its objectives. It can also devote part of its budget to improving how it operates. It can evaluate results, identify failures, develop better tools, and test new methods. Those improvements make subsequent work more effective, generating further experience from which to learn. Successful projects can attract additional people and resources, expanding the budget and capabilities available for the next undertaking. This is the recursive process we want Praxis to develop. Such an entity could organize a union, understanding members’ priorities and coordinating collective bargaining. It could support a pro-AI PAC, researching policy and organizing advocacy. Its mandate could also extend to the institutions, economy, and culture of an entire country. Bitcoin gave our generation our own currency. Praxis is using AI to give it its own country. Bitcoin demonstrated that a system born on the internet could attract a community of believers and become an institution of global consequence. A Digital Nation extends that possibility into political life: a people forming online around shared values, building institutions, and organizing to establish a physical home. AI supplies a new capacity to turn their common purpose into sustained action. Praxis’s purpose is to revitalize Western Civilization through the pursuit of heroism, truth, and beauty. We believe technological progress should serve a civilization worthy of the power it creates. That requires human direction. We will steward the alignment of Praxis’s growing intelligence with its people and constitutional purpose. Their task is to articulate the values the system serves and translate them into objectives that guide its activity. Member preferences help identify shared priorities; the constitution gives that work a consistent direction. As we argued in Sovereign Intelligence, the development of more capable AI makes this human responsibility more consequential. People must determine the ends toward which intelligence is directed. Our institutions should become better at pursuing those ends as their capabilities advance. Our first collective action campaign applies this idea to a shared ambition: building a new city. AI brings together members’ preferences for how they want to live, what they want to create, and whom they want around them. The campaign gives those preferences an actionable form. Prospective residents can express their interest in moving, identify what they could contribute, and find others with whom to build. Shared priorities can become projects, with people organizing around the work required to realize them. Someone who wants to live near friends can start a neighborhood and invite them. Others can discover that community, join it, and bring their own abilities and relationships. These actions begin to make a future city visible: the people it would serve, the life they want to share, and the capabilities they can contribute to its creation.
