Yes, they prayed with much repetition, because they felt that through repetition they would be heard. Jesus very clearly tells his followers to avoid this inclination towards repetition. Repetitious Prayer by rote is being addressed. He says nothing about the content.

No not just repetition . Babbling Which is what βατταλογήσητε means . They would wake up their gods with shouting about Jesus did repetitively prayer in the garden .

Jesus engaged in no repetition, comparable to the rosary. In fact, he did not engage in repetition at all. He prayed for the same thing three times and not in rapid succession.

What power can Mary possibly have over the Son of God, let alone God the Father? How can the creator of all things be persuaded by any of his creations, never mind one that was a mortal human being like you or I?
