Like a fragile leaf torn from its branch by autumn's sigh, crowds once clung to Jesus for miracles and ease, yet scattered when he revealed the price: deny self (Greek: aparneomai, a full renunciation), take up your stauros—your own beam of suffering—and follow into the unknown. For millennia, this rhythm repeats: prophets stoned for truth, the Anointed One nailed for mercy, as wide paths lure with promises of plenty without pain. But the Father's narrow way? It craves metanoia, that wrenching turn from self, poured out in selfless acts—fasting that empties the soul for heaven's fill, giving that strips away greed's grip, forgiving as we've been forgiven, extending mercy to the merciless, even loving those who pierce your side. Yet if this vision stirs your depths, awakening holy fear, come now. Mercy whispers still; let's embrace these sacrifices hand in hand, treading the slim trail while twilight fades.
