All you're doing is creating more opportunities for speculators to profit from scarcity. This isn't a solution. It's an invitation to more problems. 2008, the banks were in a lot of trouble. They had to start allowing riskier mortgages with money from anywhere. Time to end it.

One year ago we signed the first deal to change how we build homes in this country. Since then, we've worked with communities all over Canada to legalize housing, and to make it faster and easier to build homes. We’ve worked to build more homes near transit, more homes for students, and more homes at prices folks can actually afford. The progress is picking up across the country. In Halifax, there’s been a 40% increase in building permits in the last year. In London, starts increased by 65%. In Kitchener, they donated land to help create 10,000 homes. Over in Brandon Manitoba, they created incentives to get builders building more homes in their downtown, while the City of Saanich focused on pre-zoning university-owned sites so that students can live closer to where they study at the University of Victoria. We've got further to go, and we’ll keep working to get you into a home, faster. Stay tuned for the next round of Housing Accelerator Fund deals!

It would make your blood boil to walk around the area to see so many boarded-up homes in the middle of a housing crisis. Every one of these empty houses should be a home for a family, for children, for people to build a future and a good life. The scourge of dereliction is a direct result of Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael housing policy. They need to do their job and get these houses back into use now.

In Congress, I’m a cosponsor of the Yes In My Backyard Act (YIMBY) bill, which will prioritize federal dollars for communities that reduce the red tape limiting housing construction. I’m also a champion of getting shop class back in junior high. We’ll fix our housing shortage by reducing red tape, building more housing units, and ensuring young people learn the skills they need to build homes right here in Southwest Washington.
