On International Women’s Day in 1952, the 3rd year after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the first group of 14 female pilots flew over Beijing, announcing to the world that China had joined the ranks of nations with women aviators. It wasn’t until over 50 years later that Chinese women were cleared to fly fighter jets. These female pilots haven’t missed out on key historical moments. After the 1976 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the first plane to land in the disaster zone was piloted by a woman. Following China’s first atomic bomb test, female pilots twice entered the mushroom cloud to collect aerial samples. And the two Chinese women who have ventured into space both started their careers as PLA pilots. On Friday, Congressman Turner was brought home from Washington D.C. to Houston and most importantly his childhood neighborhood of Acres Homes. Ashley and Jimmie would like to formally thank the Dulles Airport (IAD) TSA staff, United Airlines staff, pilots, crews, and operations teams both at IAD and Bush Airport , Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and EMS along with Houston Fire Dept for the water salute at takeoff and landing, and the Houston Police Honor Guard, and other officers who helped in the transport of the Congressman to the funeral home. Everyone played an integral part which truly left an impression on Ashley, Jimmie, and staff who accompanied the Congressman back home.

WRIGHTWOOD INCIDENT UPDATE: San Bernardino County Fire remains in command of the Wrightwood Incident as ongoing rain continues to worsen mud and debris flows and flooding. The primary focus remains life safety. Crews are conducting door-to-door checks in impacted areas and advising residents in danger zones to evacuate immediately.
