President Trump took his first flight on the new Air Force One plane, a luxury Boeing 747-8 gifted to the U.S. by the Qatari government last year. The plane, which is worth an estimated $400 million, underwent several renovations for the safety and security of the president. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink said the Air Force spent less than 400 million taxpayer dollars on the upgrades. CBS News' Lindsey Reiser has more on the maiden voyage.

The aircraft must be completely stripped and rebuilt to meet presidential standards, including highly classified communications, defensive systems, and security upgrades to mitigate intelligence risks. While delivery is targeted for 2026, it remains unclear when it will become fully operational, as extensive testing may be required. President Trump previously suggested a February 2026 timeline.
