President Abdirahman Irro Convenes Strategic Dialogue with National Political Party Leaders His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, today convened a high-level consultative meeting at the Presidential Palace with the Chairpersons of the three National Political Parties: WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE. This strategic engagement is part of the President’s ongoing efforts to deepen national consensus, safeguard political stability, and strengthen Somaliland’s democratic resilience during a period of critical national and regional significance. The meeting provided a frank and constructive platform to discuss the evolving political landscape, the imperative of preserving national unity, and the shared responsibility to confront external threats to Somaliland’s sovereignty and constitutional order. In his remarks, President Abdirahman Irro reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to inclusive governance, principled dialogue, and institutional cooperation. He emphasized that the vitality of Somaliland’s democracy depends on sustained engagement among political stakeholders and collective stewardship of the national interest. The President further underscored the importance of regular, structured consultations between the executive branch and the official opposition parties—not as a matter of convenience, but as a cornerstone of the Republic of Somaliland’s democratic ethos and a guarantor of its long-term stability and credibility. The leaders of the three national parties commended the President’s leadership in fostering principled dialogue at this critical juncture. They affirmed their commitment to working collaboratively in safeguarding national cohesion, advancing electoral preparedness, and reinforcing the foundations of democratic governance. Moreover, the opposition parties expressed their willingness to support government initiatives aligned with the shared aspirations of peace, constitutional order, and sustainable national progress. These actions were characterized as provocative, irresponsible, and a direct challenge to the peace and order preserved by Somaliland through decades of self-governance. The Republic of Somaliland hereby reaffirms its sovereign right to defend its territory and institutions and calls on the international community to take a clear and principled stance against Somalia’s destabilizing conduct, which threatens not only Somaliland’s security but also the wider stability of the Horn of Africa. I was honored to be invited by the President of Somaliland to attend his inauguration on the 12th of December 2024. The event, which brought together hundreds of attendees, including diplomats, political leaders from neighboring countries, and citizens of Somaliland, was truly remarkable. The newly elected President's speech emphasized his commitment to dialogue and the importance of fostering social cohesion within Somaliland. I would like to share my experience in Somaliland, especially for those who have never visited 1. *Hargeisa:Hargeisa’s Peace and Vibrancy* Hargeisa is a peaceful city where people go about their lives with focus and purpose. The city is bustling with commercial activities, and it is clear that the residents are optimistic about the future. During my visit, I witnessed a strong community spirit and a collective determination to transform the economy. 2. Somaliland’s Investment Potentia l My visit to Berbera showcased the transformative power of investment. The development of Berbera Port by DP World has injected substantial capital into the region, making it one of the largest and most efficient ports in the Horn of Africa. The port handles millions of metric tonnes of goods and has completely revitalized the city, opening up vast economic opportunities. Opportunities for Local and International Investors Somaliland is primed for investment, not just from its diaspora but also from the international community. The region's strategic location and stability make it an ideal destination for business. 2. Untapped Regional Markets There is immense potential for investment in manufacturing, given the untapped markets in neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, Yemen, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Oman. With the right infrastructure, Somaliland can become a hub for trade and industry in the region. 4. Hospitality and Tourism Growth The people of Somaliland are incredibly hospitable, which creates opportunities for growth in the hospitality sector. Towns like Hargeisa have the potential to become international conference destinations, further boosting tourism and economic activity. Somaliland offers a unique blend of peace, opportunity, and optimism, making it an attractive destination for those seeking to explore its vast potential.
