President Macron, "Have the problems, the illegal migration problems of Great Britain from 9 years ago been resolved by Brexit?" "No" "British people were lied to that the problem was the European Union" "Simply put, by leaving a legal vacuum (UK leaving the Dublin agreement because of Brexit), the...

The ‘one in, one out’ gimmick is more ‘Make Brexit work’ cosplay - Starmer’s still clinging to red lines set by May and Johnson, downplaying asylum cooperation like the Dublin Agreement, and dodging the real fix: rejoining the SM/EEA (at a minimum).

British people voted to Leave the EU to remove the toxic control exercised by France and Germany and the undemocratic bureaucratic EU institutions. Exaggerations on benefits or not the British public wanted out and away from people like Merkel and Macron.

We took more people in under the Dublin Agreement than we sent back - and the numbers were pitifully small. MigrationWatch said it wouldn't be worth staying in it, if it was offered to us.

Brexit was won by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history. Here is one of them. The "Will of the People" was used to suppress democracy after the Brexit Referendum. Lord Sumption giving the Reith Lectures addressed the Brexiters' claim that Brexit is the will of the people. He said - "This is the authentic language of totalitarianism. It is the lowest point to which a political community can sink short of actual violence." This is not about percentages. It doesn't matter what percentage voted for Brexit. It is about a referendum being used to attack the fundamental democratic right to oppose, and to promote the totalitarian division of society into the people and its enemies, the subversives and saboteurs. In the period following the referendum the so-called "Will of the People" was used to create a climate of intimidation that silenced almost all political & media opponents of Brexit. During that period Britain was not functioning as a democracy, and we are still living with its effects, pro-European politicians are still cowed by the Brexit "Will of the People". In a democracy there is government and opposition, majority and minority, competing parties and dissenting voices. There is no totalitarian unity of the "Will of the People" which makes all opponents into the enemies of the people. Where the right to oppose ends, democracy dies, and that is exactly exactly why dictators like Hitler loved referendums.

Alastair Campbell, "Nigel Farage is a consequential figure in British politics, I doubt Brexit would have happened without him" "History will say the three key drivers of Brexit: David Cameron who called the referendum, Boris Johnson who led one of the campaigns and Nigel Farage who laid the ground for it" "Camerons gone, Johnsons gone, and the fact that some people are talking about Nigel Farage becoming the next prime minister, what does that say about our politics?" "The guy who has helped to inflict the very thing, Brexit, that has weakened our economy, weakened our standing in the world, that we think he should be prime minister? "It's a form of madness" "The populism and lies of the Brexit campaigners" "Brexit was all about taking back control. Partly because we lost our membership of the European Union and so the Dublin Convention, we've lost control" "Partly because so many Europeans left Britain, went back, doctors, nurses, and carers, we then had the Boris wave of immigration, people from other countries, particularly India, Bangladesh" "We also have people from Ukraine and Hong Kong which I think the public are more willing to accept" "The truth is, we have to get the balance right between an aging population, where we're going to need immigrants to do the jobs that British people don't want to do, and we need high skill immigrants" "Charlatans like Farage are always going to make immigration the issue because they haven't got much else to say about anything else" "Andy Burnham is very pro European, in his heart he knows Brexit is a disaster, knows that we have to somehow fix it" "I think it will be a much closer relationship with the European Union"
