Imagine if I had said to law firms that were representing parties that were upset with policies my administration had initiated, that you will not be allowed into government buildings. We will punish you economically for dissenting from the Affordable Care Act or the Iran deal. We will ferret out students who protest against my policies. It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors.

My fellow young people , let me be straightforward. What our parents are trying to do is not restricting our freedoms or police our bodies. Instead, they are reminding us that if we are not careful, tomorrow, when they are no longer with us, this country will not survive if we continue living this indulgent life with almost no moral compass. They say that difficult times create strong people. This is precisely what the challenging times of the 1950s did for our parents. None of us can deny that they have been strong for us. The same saying goes: strong people create good times. These are the good times we are currently living in, where we can eat, drink, and wear what we want. However, unfortunately, these good times create weak people who end up creating bad times again. Do you really want to be that weak person who will create bad times for Rwanda? I hope you are not, and I hope you never will be! I want to be strong! The last time I listened to Maria Yohana’s song “Indinde,” I kept asking myself, are we capable of safeguarding what the previous generation has achieved so far? Do we have young men as courageous as Rwigema, Paul Kagame, or Kabarebe? Young men who built nations in their 20s and 30s? We must stop our nonsense and realize that if we don’t wake up from our slumber, we are condemning Rwanda’s future to match our current state of mind. As for me, I have chosen a sober life. Jordy: I think what we’re seeing here is a clear separation from the pack — who the players are and who the pretenders are. The pretenders are the people who say they care about our country but have been sitting on their hands for the last eight months during this Trump regime. The players are the folks who get up every day and truly fight for our democracy. I mean, what we saw out of Newsom today — that’s what this country needs. It’s not just lip service. This is someone who truly cares about what’s happening and is literally screaming from the mountaintops that we have to take this seriously. Because if we don’t, who knows just how bad these maps can get in 2026, 2028, and beyond. It’s going to be insane. Macro note here for the Dems: not that I pretend to be some political strategist, but just as someone who gives a shit about this country — people want fighters. I want to be incredibly clear…if we don’t take a stand to protect our LGBTQIA+ community…those who are trying to dismantle the very heart of this country will not stop. Their targets are vulnerable community after vulnerable community… well we are not vulnerable when we all stand together; when we stand for each other. This is the strength they underestimate. The antisemitism that was festering under the surface for decades, has exploded. And for those of us who stand against it, we are not the popular kids. The so called “cool kids” are wearing a keffiyeh, calling for an intifada and demanding a Palestine between the river and the sea even if they can’t tell you which river or which sea. Keffiyeh Karens. That’s the mainstream now. Standing up against jihadism is now the counter-culture. Standing up for western democratic values against terror and extremism: that is now the counter-culture. Using facts and reason and knowing history: that is now the counter-culture. People! WE are the counterculture. And we are doing it. The Jewish people have found our voice because standing up for what we believe in, even when it’s not popular, is part of who we are. Our tiny people haven’t survived for millennia and outlived every empire that tried to destroy us by always being the cool kids. In fact, we almost never are. We know when it’s time to swim against the tide because we know this playbook. We have been here before. And our message to the world is as follows: the hatred that targets is targeting you too. I have a question for you, keffiyeh Karen from campus: where would you prefer to be a woman? in Iran? In Afghanistan? or in Israel? We cannot take the freedoms that we enjoy here in the US in Israel and in the west for granted, and right now even saying just that is swimming against the tide – it is being the counterculture.
