Trump on Venezuela: Remember in Iraq, they got rid of everybody. They had no generals, they had no people. They had nobody to run the government. It turned out to be a mess. And that’s where ISIS came from, came from the military and all the people, they formed ISIS. It was handled very badly. But this is handled very well.

So there was no collapse of the regime, and Trump made this very clear when he said that they made the choice not to go in and take everybody out the way they did in Iraq, because that would have led to state collapse. This, in a way, is an admission of US policy that regime change in Venezuela has failed for two decades now, & basically the removal of Maduro in many ways was more about saving face and giving the appearance that Trump had succeeded in achieving his goal of regime change."
