Be your own protector Rooftop Koreans Korean-American store owners who took up arms to defend their businesses during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The riots were sparked by the acquittal of four Los Angeles Police Department officers who had been caught on videotape beating Rodney King, an African-American motorist. The not-guilty verdict led to widespread anger and protest, which escalated into days of looting, arson, and violence across Los Angeles. Korean-owned businesses were disproportionately targeted during the riots. Local law enforcement was overwhelmed and unable to protect these businesses, so many Korean-American business owners took matters into their own hands. Armed with a variety of weapons, they positioned themselves on the rooftops of their stores to deter looters and protect their livelihoods, hence the nickname "Rooftop Koreans."

Honestly, they’ll get the hint and no one will do it again.
It's gone so far towards lawlessness that an extreme bounce back in the other direction is required to correct current social norms of "they just do it for bread."
