Nigeria has inaugurated Africa’s largest lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to deepen economic diversification and strengthen its position in the global clean energy value chain. Vice President Kashim Shettima described the solid minerals sector as a key driver of economic diversification and poverty reduction, noting that the lithium processing facility, with a daily capacity of 6,000 tons, has already created employment opportunities for more than 1,000 local residents.

Yesterday, we commenced the city-wide distribution of hoes to every household in Masaka City, starting in Bugabira Parish. A Parish meeting was convened in Bugabira to officially launch the exercise. This intervention follows my direct lobbying to replace the previous consignment received last year, which was regrettably misappropriated. I express sincere gratitude to H.E. President Yoweri K Museveni for his continued responsiveness to the needs of farmers. Further, the President has directed the establishment of a Tractor Mechanized Centre in Masaka City. Farmers engaged in intensive, extensive, and highly mechanized agricultural production will borrow the tractors at no fee and only buy fuel, use them and return them accordingly! With the Irrigation Booster Loan now approved by Parliament, Masaka City’s farmers are positioned to realize significantly greater productivity and incomes. In my capacity as Member of Parliament, Minister, and patriot, I remain committed to advancing every stage of the agricultural value chain. This includes sustained advocacy for: Access to quality fertilizers and pesticides; Expansion of irrigation infrastructure; Deployment and strict supervision of agricultural extension workers; Development of agro-processing facilities; Strengthened market linkages! 116Million Banana Processing Factory in Taveta. This area is the second largest producer of banana in Kenya. This plant would have helped over 6000 farmers along the River Lumi Belt. It would have increased the banana production economy to 7billion and created more than 38,000 jobs in the agro processing value chain. Curiously there is another similar project in the county books for 39.7 million. Whoever knows the other one please let me know if it exists.

Bobo-Dioulasso, May 22, 2025 (AIB) – The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a cashew apple processing plant on Thursday in the commune of Péni, in the province of Houet, Hauts-Bassins region, at a cost of 6.6 billion FCFA, with a view to promoting local processing in order to create new economic opportunities and decent jobs. In the long term, the plant will allow the transformation of 5,000 tonnes of cashew apples into 3,750 tonnes of juice concentrate, 3,937,500 litres of cashew apple juice, 540,000 litres of cashew apple ethanol, 2,700,000 litres of cashew apple wine and 1,350,000 litres of cashew apple vinegar per year. With a total cost of 6.6 billion CFA francs, the plant will generate 112 direct jobs and 1,050 indirect jobs. The construction of the plant aims to create a sustainable, inclusive, and profitable local value chain and, above all, to contribute to the country's agro-industrial self-sufficiency.

At State House Entebbe, I met Mr. Nick Checker, the Senior Bureau Official in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, who is representing President Donald Trump at tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony, together with his delegation. I emphasized the need for value addition and industrialisation across Africa. We cannot continue exporting raw materials such as coffee, oil and minerals without processing them. Value addition is crucial for expanding Africa’s GDP, creating jobs and increasing the purchasing power of our people. I welcome him to Uganda and wish him a fruitful stay.

State House has commenced the induction of 36 newly recruited Farm Managers and Finance Officers who will oversee agricultural enterprises at the Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs and supervise over 170 SACCOs established to support programme graduates. The officers are undergoing a week-long training at the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School in Kaweweta in leadership, patriotism, political economy and mindset transformation ahead of their deployment. The 19 Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs are being transformed into centres of production and wealth creation through value addition projects, including a paper processing plant in Mbarara and a grain milling facility in Masindi. The newly recruited officers will also oversee the Shs50 million revolving funds injected by President Yoweri K Museveni into graduates' SACCOs and support efforts to strengthen accountability, sustainability and job creation under the Presidential Presidential Industrial Hubs programme.

Western Traders Are Crashing Africa’s Cocoa Market West Africa grows the cocoa that feeds the global chocolate industry, but when the market crashes, it is African farmers who are left exposed. African countries cannot continue to produce raw materials while Western traders, processors and chocolate brands control the real value, the pricing and the profit. The cocoa crisis is another reminder that Africa needs stronger regional control, more local processing, African-owned value chains and better protection for the farmers whose labour keeps this industry alive.

I am putting up a factory for processing Hass Ovacado into ocacado oil in Buyaga West. We shall be crusung 75 tonnes of ovacado every day. On top of creating direct jobs, we shall create market for Hass Ovacado for our farmers. Infact i will request HE Yoweri K Museveni to make sure that government sets up nursery beds for Hass Ovacado so that our farmers can get seedlings at a small price. We will turn Buyaga into a model Constituency. Kungu Al-mahadi Adam ,Canary Mugume ,NBS Television ,Muhoozi Kainerugaba ,The New Vision!

MAHAMA ANNOUNCES HISTORIC FIRST DELIVERY OF GHANAIAN CRUDE TO LOCAL REFINERY President Outlines Bold Value-Addition Agenda at Ghana Diaspora Town Hall Meeting in London LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — President John Dramani Mahama has announced a landmark breakthrough in Ghana’s energy and industrial transformation agenda, revealing that Ghana will, for the first time in years, begin refining its own crude oil locally as part of a comprehensive strategy to drive industrialization, create jobs, strengthen local manufacturing, and retain greater value within the national economy. Addressing hundreds of Ghanaians, investors, professionals and business leaders at the Ghana Diaspora Town Hall Meeting in London, President Mahama outlined his administration’s vision for transforming Ghana from an exporter of raw materials into a modern industrial economy powered by value addition and local production. Speaking passionately about the future of Ghana’s energy sector, President Mahama disclosed that the government is aggressively expanding offshore oil and gas production while simultaneously ensuring that the country develops the capacity to process more of its natural resources domestically. According to the President, Ghana has secured major upstream investments, including a fresh commitment of approximately US$1.5 billion from ENI in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Field to increase the production of both oil and natural gas. However, he stressed that increased production alone is not enough. “We are about to make history again. We did it during my first term, but after we left office it did not continue. In June, we will deliver a parcel of Ghanaian crude from our own oil fields to a refinery in Ghana for processing,” President Mahama announced to loud applause from the audience. The announcement is being viewed as a defining moment in Ghana’s petroleum industry and a significant step toward reducing the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products. For decades, Ghana has exported crude oil while importing refined fuels and petroleum products at considerable cost. President Mahama argued that such a model effectively exports jobs, technology, industrial growth, and economic opportunities to other countries. “Normally we produce the oil and export it. Then we import finished petroleum products or import crude again to refine. That cycle must change,” he stated. He explained that local refining will enable Ghana to capture more value from its natural resources, retain foreign exchange, strengthen local supply chains, stimulate industrial growth, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians. The President emphasized that the refining initiative forms part of a broader national industrial strategy aimed at building a fully integrated petroleum value chain encompassing extraction, refining, storage, petrochemicals, distribution, manufacturing and exports. Beyond oil and gas, President Mahama called for a national commitment to value addition across every productive sector of the economy. Using Ghana’s mineral sector as an example, he noted that the country continues to export raw gold, manganese, bauxite and other minerals for processing abroad, only to import higher-value finished products at a premium. “When we export raw materials and somebody else processes them, we create jobs in their economy instead of our own. The finished products are then exported back to us. That model cannot deliver sustainable prosperity,” he said. The President stressed that Ghana’s future economic success depends on deliberately moving up the value chain through investments in manufacturing, agro-processing, mineral beneficiation, fertilizer production, petrochemicals, food processing and strategic industrial parks. Economic analysts believe the strategy could significantly reposition Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa while accelerating job creation, technology transfer and export growth.

According to the President, Ghana has secured major upstream investments, including a fresh commitment of approximately US$1.5 billion from ENI in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Field to increase the production of both oil and natural gas. However, he stressed that increased production alone is not enough. “We are about to make history again. We did it during my first term, but after we left office it did not continue. In June, we will deliver a parcel of Ghanaian crude from our own oil fields to a refinery in Ghana for processing,” President Mahama announced to loud applause from the audience. The announcement is being viewed as a defining moment in Ghana’s petroleum industry and a significant step toward reducing the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products. For decades, Ghana has exported crude oil while importing refined fuels and petroleum products at considerable cost. President Mahama argued that such a model effectively exports jobs, technology, industrial growth, and economic opportunities to other countries. “Normally we produce the oil and export it. Then we import finished petroleum products or import crude again to refine. That cycle must change,” he stated. He explained that local refining will enable Ghana to capture more value from its natural resources, retain foreign exchange, strengthen local supply chains, stimulate industrial growth, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians. The President emphasized that the refining initiative forms part of a broader national industrial strategy aimed at building a fully integrated petroleum value chain encompassing extraction, refining, storage, petrochemicals, distribution, manufacturing and exports. Beyond oil and gas, President Mahama called for a national commitment to value addition across every productive sector of the economy. Using Ghana’s mineral sector as an example, he noted that the country continues to export raw gold, manganese, bauxite and other minerals for processing abroad, only to import higher-value finished products at a premium. “When we export raw materials and somebody else processes them, we create jobs in their economy instead of our own. The finished products are then exported back to us. That model cannot deliver sustainable prosperity,” he said. The President stressed that Ghana’s future economic success depends on deliberately moving up the value chain through investments in manufacturing, agro-processing, mineral beneficiation, fertilizer production, petrochemicals, food processing and strategic industrial parks. Economic analysts believe the strategy could significantly reposition Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa while accelerating job creation, technology transfer and export growth.
