PRESS STATEMENT 24/07/2006 APC’s Desperate Plot to Discredit Adeleke’s Achievements Through Project Vandalism Must Be Stopped - OSUN ACCORD The Osun Accord has received credible reports of a disturbing pattern of vandalisation targeting public infrastructure delivered by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke. These acts are not ordinary criminal... activities but appear to be part of a calculated attempt by desperate elements in the opposition APC to undermine and discredit the remarkable achievements of the current administration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. Having failed to match the Governor’s impressive record of performance, these elements seem determined to destroy the very projects that are transforming communities across the state in order to create a false impression of government failure. These acts of sabotage is strongly condemned in the strongest terms and those behind them should know that public infrastructure belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party. The destruction of roads, public facilities, streetlights, and other government assets is an attack on the collective interest of our citizens and will not diminish the resolve of Governor Adeleke to continue delivering dividends of democracy to every part of the state. The security agencies is hereby called on to thoroughly investigate these incidents, identify those responsible regardless of their political affiliation, and ensure they face the full weight of the law. We hereby urge residents, community leaders, youth groups, and all well-meaning citizens to remain vigilant and take ownership of public assets by promptly reporting any suspicious activities around government projects to the appropriate security agencies. The people of Osun have witnessed unprecedented infrastructural development under Governor Ademola Adeleke, and no amount of politically motivated vandalism will erase these visible achievements or derail the administration’s commitment to building a more prosperous and secure state for all. I commend the hardworking engineers from the Ministry of Works who have swiftly mobilized to the site to ensure the immediate repair of the damaged section. During my visit, I received direct briefing from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashiru Bello, on the circumstances surrounding the act of vandalism. It is unfortunate that some saboteurs, whose sole objective is to undermine our developmental strides and destroy the legacy of this administration, would resort to attacking public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ resources. I enjoin security agencies to strengthen the protection of public infrastructure across the state and ensure that those responsible for this criminal act are identified, arrested, and brought to justice. These projects belong to the people of Osun State, and every well-meaning citizen has a responsibility to protect them from acts of sabotage and vandalism. My administration remains resolute in its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and will not be deterred by the actions of those who seek to impede our progress.

Nurudeen Alowonle, an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke and Chairman of the Osun State Park Management, was arrested for being in possession of a service pistol and ammunition. Following the arrest, Governor Adeleke petitioned the then Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to transfer the officer that made the arrest, CSP Moses Lohor out of Osun State. The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) has dismissed the reported endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and some Accord Party officials. Earlier today, I addressed a World Press Conference in my capacity as the Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC) on the disturbing rise in political violence in Osun State and the tragic killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area. With deep sorrow, I condemned the gruesome murder of the innocent teenager and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Saheed Kareem, popularly known as "Tanfeani," and every individual connected with this heinous crime, following the public identification of the gang leader by the police. I warned that political violence is fast becoming a dangerous trend in Osun State, posing grave threats to peace, security, and democratic stability. I noted that the unfortunate incident in Ilobu is not isolated, but part of a disturbing pattern of violence that has claimed lives and endangered citizens in Ikire, Ilesa, Owode-Ede, Osogbo, and other parts of the state. I called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu TUNJI DISU, psc(+), NPM Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Police Force_CRU, to order a comprehensive investigation into all incidents of political violence and ensure that perpetrators, sponsors, and collaborators are brought to justice irrespective of their political affiliations or social status. I also expressed our lack of confidence in the leadership of the Osun State Police Command under Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gottan, citing the recurring incidents of violence and the growing public perception of selective law enforcement. He explained that several political parties showed strong interest in Gov Ademola Adeleke, and detailed how Accord, through due consultation with both the National Working Committee (NWC) and the South-West Coordinating structures, successfully welcomed the Governor into the party. He further clarified that neither the State nor the National Working Committee of Accord has any knowledge of the so-called primary election conducted today by some individuals. Accord remains united and focused. The re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the party’s top priority.

I strongly condemn the coordinated attacks carried out by pro-APC political thugs in Ile-Ife, Ede, Osogbo and other parts of our state earlier today. No political ambition is worth the blood, pain, and suffering of innocent citizens. I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector General of Police TUNJI DISU, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security authorities to urgently intervene and call Mr. Gboyega Oyetola Adegboyega Oyetola and the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji Bola Oyebamiji and everyone behind these provocations to order before they plunge our dear state into chaos. After receiving reports of the attacks, I personally visited affected areas and met victims receiving treatment at the Osun State Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and the Cottage Hospital, Ede. Today in Lagos State, yet again, we witnessed an ugly but all-too-familiar scene: thugs allegedly sponsored and elements of the police working not to protect the people, but to intimidate, harass, and silence them. During GRV’s event, what should have been a peaceful democratic gathering turned into a targeted attempt to suppress free expression and political participation. Yet, in the face of fear and violence, brave Nigerians stood tall. We are immensely proud of those citizens who acted with courage and unity to protect one another and ensure GRV and his supporters were escorted to safety. This is the spirit of true democracy the will of the people refusing to be broken. But we must say this clearly and without apology: the use of violence, intimidation, and state-backed thuggery to undermine political opposition is a stain on Lagos State’s democratic record. This same pattern played out during the last elections, where voters were attacked, threatened, and in some cases injured simply for supporting the candidate of their choice. These are not isolated incidents they are part of a shameful strategy of political suppression that must be condemned by all lovers of democracy. Enough is enough.

IG of Police Is a Blackmailer Who Plays to the Gallery – Osun Information Commissioner, Kolapo Alimi The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has strongly criticised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, accusing him of "playing to the gallery" during his recent visit to Osun State and alleging that his comments were politically motivated. Speaking during a podcast aired on Sunday in both Yoruba and English, Alimi described the Inspector-General as a "blackmailer" whose conduct was allegedly intended to serve the interests of the opposition APC rather than uphold professional policing. According to the Commissioner, the Inspector-General's public comments suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke was harbouring suspected criminals in the Government House were inappropriate and inconsistent with the conduct expected of the nation's highest-ranking police officer. Alimi said: "A truly unbiased and professional police officer would have discussed the issue with the Governor behind the scenes instead of making such uncomplimentary and unsubstantiated remarks in the presence of journalists. That was done in bad faith. That is a subtle blackmail to destroy the reputation of the Governor. That is playing to the gallery to seek public validation. That was unbecoming of a professional and diligent Inspector-General of Police. A diligent police officer should have got the touted criminals arrested before even coming to Osun if truly the Governor is harbouring criminals." The Commissioner maintained that the Inspector-General's remarks were biased and politically motivated, alleging that they were aimed at advancing the interests of the APC rather than ensuring impartial law enforcement.
