French-made Canon d'Infanterie de 37 modèle 1916 TRP deployed by US troops circa 1918 full clip including setting up the piece: The modèle 1916 gun's 37mm caliber was the smallest allowed for explosive shells under the 1899 Hague Convention and hence was used by many nations for small guns. In U.S. service, each gun was assigned an ammunition limber, which carried 14 boxes containing 16 rounds of ammunition each as well as tools and accessories. The gun and its limber were normally together towed by a single horse or mule, but were manhandled forward if contact with the enemy was expected. During the First World War, the guns saw widespread use with both French and United States forces and were designated the 37mm M1916 in U.S. service. In combat they were found to be wanting, and it was found their intended task of destroying gun emplacements was better done by mortars. As well as infantry use, the guns were also fitted to the M1917 light tank, the first mass-produced U.S. tank. These tanks entered service too late for World War I, and none ever saw action.

Italy's first homegrown tank, the massive Fiat Tipo 2000 Model 17, rolled out as a 40-ton behemoth in 1917 with a 65mm howitzer in its rotating turret and up to eight 6.5mm machine guns. It measured 24.3 feet long, tipped the scales at nearly 44,000 pounds, and crawled at just 4.7 mph powered by a 250hp Fiat A-12 engine. Only two prototypes were built, one saw limited trials in Libya in 1919 but proved too slow for guerrilla fighting.

Around 350 units were produced, with the first prototype appearing in August 1962. It featured an M10-8 flame gun paired with a 7.62 mm M73 machine gun, capable of 360° rotation and a 200-meter range. The troop compartment was replaced with a 200-gallon fuel system, enabling 32 seconds of sustained fire. Though effective, it was used in combat sparingly.
