If tokens are profitable then model builders have a reason to produce more of them which means more inference, more compute and more demand across networking, memory, CPUs, power and data centers. The near-term stock reaction is about expectations but long-term story is still that the AI factory buildout is running through Nvidia which is why I think it has a real path to becoming the world’s first $10T company.

Chamath Warns: Your AI Data Isn’t as Private as You Think Today's statement from OpenAI on the Navier-Stokes Problem and whether it used recent user data to boost its own capabilities: “While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models.” Here's what Chamath Palihapitiya had to say on AI's fragile privacy and the ZDR myth back in July: “Privacy in AI is very fragile and it's very brittle. There are all kinds of non-obvious data leak vectors lurking in AI. If you think that you're going to flip a ZDR switch, zero data retention, which is the magic term that the industry uses to tell you that everything's going to be okay. I think the answer and the message should be, ‘It's not going to be okay because you can't guarantee any of it.’ So the model companies, when they give you these zero data retention policies, are probably trying their best. But I think the reality is you are leaking information where you don't know it. And they, despite their best efforts, may still have trapdoors that they don't even know about until it's figured out by somebody else. You need an independent third-party layer to interface to these models to manage this exposure, because there are trapdoors everywhere.”

One of the great things about Apple embracing Local AI is that they have a track record of genuinely caring about privacy. Jobs cared deeply about privacy. It's in the DNA of the company. They have resisted pressure from nation states to build backdoors into the iPhone. As AI becomes more useful, it also becomes more intimate and invasive. Local AI is our defense against mass surveillance and a handful of companies owning the intelligence layer, shifting control back to individuals. Apple is also not exposed to the "AI bubble" e.g. data center buildouts or big training runs. Their AI capex has stayed relatively flat. If most inference moves local, they sell more devices, and win.

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe in new interview on self-driving: "Tesla's got a huge fleet. So our approach is we have to catch up with them and compete. And so we're going to have more cameras with better dynamic range. We're going to supplement that with LiDAR that provides better safety for edge case conditions and allows us to train the vision models faster. And the incremental cost to do that is relatively small. And in fact any of the incremental costs that would have been there on its own is offset by the fact that we brought inference in house and reduced the cost of our inference platform so dramatically from what we have in your car. Your car uses an Nvidia inference platform. I say all this because in like the infinite long-term you know, you could make the case that once the models are very very robust you could have less cameras or you may be able to get away with less radar. It's not clear yet if that's the case for covering all these corner cases."

I am so glad Sarvam team is so based! They have no ego. Rather than sticking to their own models they shall provide world class inference with international models like GLM, Kimi, DeepSeek etc. That is how to get great at AI Infra, post training etc. which are as important as training. Also, good luck with planned 1T parameter model training run. I have been writing about open embrace of open source AI by Indian organizations and labs to develop capabilities. I am glad Sarvam taking the lead. These guys are going to go very far!
