@GoldenAgeTimes2 What’s the big deal about removing a few boards and replacing the posts and doing it right? Now you have a rotten post screwed to a piece of metal.

Ugh! That looks like some jury-rig BS I'd do to my property now that my hands are too crippled up to do the job right.

If you’re going to do that much digging, just do it right and replace the post.

Or...just replace the 4x4.

You’re putting wood screws in a post that’s at least 10 years old. The footing will hold, but not the screws. Fence panels will blow over in the next big wind.

You did everything needed to replace the post.

That’s a band aid. The post will rot further up until the screws lose their hold.

Nothing like a temporary fix that adds another 50 pounds of concrete to the 50 that's already there.

If some kids had not of eaten the picnic tables, we could have still had real treated lumber that won't rot when it drizzles.

@DangerousThinkg Good solution. I decided a couple of years ago to bite the bullet and replace a similar fence with a concrete block wall since my neighbor split the cost.

@PURE_BL00D2 Expensive, time-consuming band aid. By the time you rented a jackhammer and bought materials for this repair, you could’ve spent a little more and replaced the whole fence. Which, by the way, you’ll be doing soon anyway…

@Satch33 Only hard back breaking work fixes a problem like this and perhaps a little chlorine to bleach on the wood.

Wrap a chain around the old concrete and pull it out with a decent high lift farm jack and replace the post (check it out on youtube) Works everytime. Your way will always look like a repair job

Youre still going to have to replace the fence in a few years anyway. So not sure this is worth the squeeze.

Best just go concrete and slot in fence panels or the expensive plastic recycled panel boards.
