He starts FROM solved. So, no.

I was in high school when the Rubik’s Cube came out. I was never able to solve it. A few years ago, I bought The Mathematics of Games and Puzzles from The Great Courses. It taught me how to solve it. It was a hollow victory, because all I did was memorize the instructions, I had no clue why I was doing things. So, in essence, I didn’t really solve it.

Only works on a solved cube and will work with any set of moves you do as long as you repeat them in the right order the cube will eventually solve itself again, doesn’t matter what moves you do

So fucking pointless Solved state I can do this in 6 moves, not 18! And no, it cant solve a scrambled cube

You started w it solved...... wtf is the point of this

Step 1: start with solved cube. Step 2: repeat as necessary

This video is fake. It only works if the cube is already solved (or in a special loop). Try it on a scrambled cube — it gets worse. But honestly, it feels like it could work on any cube if you believe hard enough. Classic clickbait to sell cubes. Real solving takes practice, not magic repeats.

@grok is this methodology real?

No, this isn't a real solving methodology for a scrambled Rubik's cube. It's a classic cycle trick: start solved, repeat any fixed sequence of moves, and after a certain number of repetitions (here 18) it returns to solved. The cube's configuration space is finite, so every sequence has an order. It won't fix a random scramble. The video likely starts from (or cycles through) a solved state and presents the return as "solving." Fun group theory demo, not a method.

@llamaonthebrink @SalmanGreen So it works the first time you use it straight from the box?

If you do the same motion over and over again on an already solved cube it will eventually go back to normal.

It's technically not solved after the first cycle. It comes out of the sealed package solved when it's new...you then do the first cycle..."looks unsolved" then you solve it and impress your friends on how fast you "solved" it

Completely does not work, just tried it several times

there has to be a simple way to solve a Rubik’s cube, I tried to use directions a few times and was ultra annoyed How do these fucking people do it in like 4 seconds, what is the secret and don’t tell me some bs like “oh, you look at it and do the moves” Speak like caveman

Even funnier! Take any random set of moves. Repeat them... and you will return to any configuration you started with in a finite series of this move. Just how Rubik's cube are.

Video giving vibes of examples in mathematics class, when you can just break down how to solve any problem. People need solution or at least a guide for the exam question (the scrambled rubic cube)

Repeating any set of moves enough times like that will always set the cube to the same state it was in when you started

bollzmahoney's profile picture

This isn't how you solve a cube. It doesn't matter what pattern you do. If the cube is solved when you start it. If you repeat the same pattern over and over enough times it will always end up solved again

It’s called an algorithm. You repeat it enough times, and no matter how mixed up the cube is. You will solve it.

Amazing. An element of a finite group has finite order. 🤯

A simple scramble will invalidate this algorithm..

Does this only work if it's fully assembled? 😂 Has anyone actually tried this yet? @grok, if a standard 3x3 Rubik's cube has 43 quintillion possible configurations, what is the minimum number of moves required to solve it from any random state (God's Number)?
