I don’t disagree with her, but these weight loss drugs are simply tools. Some people will use them well and others won’t. My daughter used one to kickstart major weight loss. Now she has such confidence and feels physically good so she works out four days a week and has weaned herself off of it. I’ve got friends that have lost way over 100 pounds. Their other health problems have greatly reduced. I don’t even recognize them. Maybe it’s good that the side effects of these drugs are so miserable. A lot of people are getting a second chance they couldn’t mentally pursue because of the hole they had dug themselves into. Maybe they just needed a jumpstart and these drugs provided that. I doubt they were having much sex at 350 pounds if they could even get it up.

I learned a long long time ago anything that makes the news, anything that "everyone" is talking about is part of the whole system, matrix, whatever you care to call it. It's actually a lot easier to identify these "trends" with internet.

Meh if you are morbidly obese your dopamine receptors are already out of whack. Anyone taking them to lose 20 lbs might have this problem, but the actual target for this drug could use some stabilized dopamine. Even if it’s low.

Without going into the spiritual, what you’re saying is partly true : it reduces impulsivity and pleasure seeking behavior. One thing though : it increases the rationality you deploy in your life, which does contribute to your success and achievements in life. Also, it is not meant to be taken forever, you typically aim for 12 months of treatment. It gives you a head start in the weight loss journey. Then you’re supposed to use the rationality to implement actual life changes : - working out : you get a positive feedback loop by loosing weight, want to work out more because you’re loosing weight, you loose more weight, get in a better shape, etc - eating better : you have less cravings, you eat better because of the rationality decision making, you try better foods and actually understand that not everything has to be a dopamine rush, you master yourself, etc And then you gradually quit, keep on working your ass off to keep the good habits. And, hopefully, get back a little joy AND sense of accomplishment along the way. Because yeah, you did it. Is it perfect? No. Can it be helpful? Absolutely. At least in my opinion.
