Smoke and fire quickly filled the cockpit due to exhaust flowing back into the fuselage. Despite the wheels-up landing and having the fuselage on fire, it proved to official circles that an aircraft could be flown satisfactorily with a back-thrust system through the rear without causing an aircraft to flip or become uncontrollable. It convinced the German Air Ministry (RLM) that rocket-powered flight was feasible, leading directly to the development of the purpose-built Heinkel He 176.
