Professional hardware, like a Sony PVM, needs to be connected & set up correctly in order to function properly. Every so often, I see people's PVM CRTs connected like this, which is wrong. Doing things like this can cause all kinds of image quality issues. I may need to... show more

When you see that « wave » symbol next to BNC outputs on Sony monitors that indicates they are auto-terminated and don’t require anything to be plugged in to function properly 👍🏻

Great point Fed!

Would love a setup video. Not using terminators on my PVM-14N6U currently but always down to learn more.

Thanks for the tip! For reference, under what conditions should one actually use 75ohm terminators?

For Sony, it's pretty much only on BVMs or other equipment that calls for specifically. It's best to consult the manual if there's ever any doubt.

Is there a reason the audio was plugged into the in and the out for Line A?

It's another secret. This pushes the left and right stereo audio together and plays it on the PVMs mono speaker.

I learned this the hard way myself. I had a friend that borrowed my 14L5 do me a favor and returned it with all the bnc connections fully populated with the bnc to rca adaptors.

le retro gaming crt physical media culture has swindled people into buying expensive sets only to use them incorrectly and miss out on the genuine benefits the hardware provides. similar to people playing their precious vinyl on a turntable with a bad cartridge and needle

75ohm terminators are not necessary on pvms, but terminating the output shouldn’t introduce problems. I’ve seen some monitors where the auto termination circuit fails even if they have the auto termination squiggle

Adding additional terminators does add problems when it'salready self terminating.
