The horizontal cuts are not necessary as the onion is already divided perpendicular to the vertical cuts.

@hbdchick Most imp. is really sharp knife. Most chance of accidents is when blades are dull.

@adammewes I reckon I could cut an onion like that if I had a knife that sharp, but as far as I can tell you can’t buy knives as good as that for less than a squillion pounds
