Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are still disabled for EU users in #iOS 17.4 beta 2. But now there's a new pop-up. The pop-up somehow indicates that PWAs are disabled intentionally, rather than being a bug. Here's a video: #PWA #web #webApps #EU #DMA

It will be a major blow for EU users if iOS 17.4 is released without PWA support. Many major European companies have already converted their native iOS apps into PWAs, mainly to skip the unnecessary overhead imposed by the App Store, such as app distribution and the App Review.

The refreshed beta 1 behaved like this:

This video illustrates the difference between a PWA and a normal browsing window, i.e. iOS 17.3 vs iOS 17.4 beta 2

Why do I suspect that the EU will come back with a nasty slap for Apple…

We are trying to recreate this behavior as well. To be sure I’m getting this right. For EU only, PWA in safari is not supported any more? (Video shows the PWA being opened not at “full screen” in the safari browser). Non EU are you”safe”?

Called it. They don’t want third party engines running native code extensions, and using PWA as a means of sideloading. So they’re just killing PWA completely.

New App Store Screen on iOS 17.4 beta 2 as well. It did not show on my iPad when I updated. This is from outside the EU.

That's a lot less surprising than when you said it might be a bug.
