I'd like to take a second to discuss what it means for a storm to be a Category 5. It's a beautiful, mesmerizing, terrifying and awe-inspiring pageant of power and elegance. It's the atmosphere at its most dynamic, raw and extreme. The hurricane has to have an absolutely perfect, undisturbed balance. It's an extremely rare feat. A Category 5 is like a spinning top whirring on a table; even the slightest jiggle can knock it off-kilter – like bumping the table. There must be virtually no shear, or changing winds with height. The upper-level winds around the system must be relatively calm. It's incredible to think that the planet's most furious storms are born out of an abundance of calm. The waters must be exceptionally warm – upwards of 86 degrees – to be replete with "oceanic heat content," or heat energy for the hurricane to draw upon. The warm waters heat and moisten the air above. That air rushes into the building hurricane. As air nears the center of the storm, it expands due to the hurricane's low pressure. That expansion releases heat energy to the environment, encouraging air to rise and powering the storm. In theory, that air parcel (pocket) should cool, but it doesn't. Why? It's still being heated by the oceans below. The ocean is constantly re-heating the lower atmosphere – and energizing the storm – at the exact same rate the air is releasing heat energy into the storm. Most of the moisture in the air condenses and produces rain, releasing even more "latent heat" to the environment. Near the hurricane's center, there's a lot of heat energy. So much so that the air rises, as if in a chimney. That rising air literally lifts air up and away from the surface. There's literally less air, and therefore less air weight, or *pressure*, at the center of the storm. Most Category 5 hurricanes are "missing" about 8-10 percent of the air from the middle. It's that deficit of air that behaves like a vacuum of sorts. Air from outside the storm rushes in to fill the void, like water spiraling into a sink drain. The greater the deficit, the faster the winds. The wind increases exponentially closer to the center of the storm; Category 5 hurricanes have winds over 157 mph. So why doesn't the eye, with the "missing" air, just "fill in?" Because the hurricane is rotating so furiously! The air is flung outwards by the "centrifugal force" at the exact same rate it's being pulled inwards by the "pressure gradient force." The air can never fully reach the eye – and instead it swirls around and around, like water perpetually sloshing around the edges of a toilet. We call that "cyclostrophic balance." Thus, the eye doesn't fill in. The storm charges on. And – until the system is torn apart by disruptive upper-level winds or moves over cooler waters/land – it continues.

Understanding Tonight’s Solar Storm and What It Means A G5 is the top of the scale, the kind of solar storm powerful enough to light up the skies across half a continent and, in extreme cases, mess with the infrastructure that quietly runs our world. It’s not science fiction; it’s space weather, and it’s happened before. Back in 1989, a storm of this strength knocked out power to six million people in Quebec for nearly a day. Go further back to 1859, the famous Carrington Event and you get telegraph wires bursting into flames and aurora visible in the Caribbean. On that scale, tonight’s storm doesn’t look apocalyptic, but it’s still serious. Right now, the readings have hit what’s considered a G4 to borderline G5 level. That means the Earth’s magnetic field is being hit hard by a burst of solar plasma and what scientists call a coronal mass ejection. Essentially, the Sun hurled a cloud of charged particles at us, and when it collides with our magnetosphere, it compresses it like a drum. Those magnetic fluctuations induce currents that can run through anything long and conductive…power lines, pipelines, satellites, even the ground itself. That’s why space weather alerts always talk about power grids and communication systems. Modern infrastructure is built to handle volatility, but not cosmic scale volatility. Grid operators are already shifting load and monitoring for those geomagnetically induced currents that caused so much trouble in 1989. Satellite operators are doing the same…tweaking orbits, rotating hardware, reducing exposure. The idea is to ride it out rather than resist it. For the rest of us, the biggest impact is aesthetic, aurora could be visible much farther south than usual, maybe as far as the Gulf states if conditions hold. It’s one of those rare nights where a solar event becomes a cultural one. But it’s also a quiet reminder of how thin our technological skin really is. A strong enough storm can reach across space and touch systems that feel untouchable like our grids, GPS, communications, even financial networks. The storm is expected to peak overnight into November 12, and while it likely won’t reach the catastrophic intensity of 1859 or even 1989, it’s strong enough to make the world pause and look up. From International Space Station, we have a unique vantage point to observe lightning storms from directly above them. Much like from the ground, they appear as rapid, intense flashes that are over as quickly as they started. But, with the help of handheld cameras and a bit of practice (and, admittedly, some luck), we can capture these intense flashes with a very high frame rate then slow them down to see how the lightning propagates. It's lightning, in slow motion. This is one that occurred over Indonesia on 6/28. I shot it for a half second at 1/120 frame rate, so, 60 separate frames. I then compiled those frames into two videos: the first, in real-time, and the second, slowed down so that each frame is a half second to highlight the progression of the flash. Note the incredible burst of light in one frame, which includes what is likely a TLE on the upper left. A TLE, or Transient Luminous Event, is an electrical discharge that happens in the upper atmosphere above lightning storms (if you haven’t seen Ferry Farhan TLE photo from last week, head over to her page). As their name implies, these are transient, or short lived, phenomena – it appeared in only one frame of the sequence, lasting for no more than 1/120th of a second. The last photo is that single frame. Absolutely incredible.

One of the things I’m most excited about in our recently announced partnership with Niantic Spatial 🌎, is how clearly it shows what becomes possible when world-class reconstruction technology is paired with a new kind of imagery infrastructure. But first, let's start with this idea of a joint venture between the largest U.S. telecom providers to add space-enabled connectivity. How will you play in that? Well, I think that's an effort to make, to divide connectivity to every American. And I basically make it in a way that is standard, available in every device, in every phone, for every carrier. And for that, that's great. It's great news, and now every American can get our service. Can you share any details in terms of that relationship and the role you'll play in it? Well, I think we are the only broadband system that is available in terms of technology to basically do hundreds of megabits per second directly to any device. This is a change of how the operators think about where the connectivity from space plays a role in your day-to-day usage of the technology. And I believe this is great news for us. We are a key enabler for this. We invented this. We did the first voice call over satellite, the first 5G connection over satellite, the first broadband connection over satellite. And just a few weeks back, we demonstrated close to 100 megabits per second for a space directly to your phone. And that's very, very unique and a very nice position to be in as we work to transform how people connect. Yeah, I want to get into that a little bit more here in just a moment. You also recently released earnings, maintained full-year revenue guidance. The thing that investors really focus on is these Bluebird satellites and how quickly you can build them and deploy them. I mean, we did see that Blue Origin, New Glenn rocket launch that ultimately ended in a failure to deploy your satellites in the correct positions and to be able to start operating and working. 45 satellites is still your plan for this year. What does that look like? It is, and we're on target. Today, we're shipping the next batch of satellites to the launch pad. We have launches approximately every month. And now it's opening. I mean, we have multiple launch providers as partners, including SpaceX. And we are very excited about what will happen during the year in terms of launches and in terms of multiple launches that we have multiple partners for doing that. Yeah, speaking of SpaceX, I was just in Alaska over the weekend, and it's incredible. You go to parts of the wilderness above the Arctic Circle. There's no roads. In some cases, there's no running water, but there is Starlink. So how do you think about this competitive landscape and this competitive environment when Starlink is looking to do direct-to-device as well? And then, of course, you have Amazon's Leo buying GlobalStar. Yeah. I think it's all revolved about the speed and capacity that you can get into the phone. What has changed the transformation that is happening in the wireless industry is that space is not just when you're in the middle of nowhere. It's when you're driving from here to the Hamptons and when your connectivity is not as good as you expected. So broadband will make a difference, making it available to absolutely every device without any change to the device and really get hundreds of megabits per second into the device. For that, you need a spectrum. You need satellites. And more importantly, you need large satellites because that's really where the tricks happen is physics. You need large satellites that have the ability to listen to the very small power that a small device putting going up to space. And that's what we have. I know many of you don’t understand what’s going on so I’m trying to explain the best way I can. So currently are two merging 564 DM Gulf of Alaskan lows axis that I’m watching that’s going be dropping southward latitude approximately 345 miles south of Humboldt County to Santa Cruz, California by early Friday at 3 AM at the same time. There’s also going to be a 594 DM monsoonal high axis that is going to reconnect in a perfect position over northern Arizona to southern Colorado by Friday at 12 PM. The combination of the two upper-level lows and the monsoonal high will create an unusually northward steering gradient right into Southern California for the pending tropical system this upcoming weekend. Our tropical system starts going under the start of its intensification process by Thursday at 10 PM just north of La Paz Mexico, approximately 200 miles west of this region. The system which will be known as Marie, should become a hurricane and will continue to move on a northward trajectory. and start showing up south of San Diego by Saturday at 6 AM, at least as a low-grade tropical system at this point or tropical storm status. There will be different variations with computer solutions in the next several days from Santa Barbara to San Diego back to Los Angeles back to Orange County. This is a very normal situation with a tropical system, especially in Southern California as we will watch in real time what actually happens with this system. Yes, these are unprecedented times ahead with a strong El Niño, but this is what is happening currently this is not fear-mongering; this is just what’s happening in our atmosphere this is not computer models anymore. This is the real-life situation we need to pay attention to for your holiday weekend. Yes, it’s been over 87 years since we’ve had a direct coastal impact from a tropical system, but we need to really pay attention to all the logistics of the system's atmospheric development. Bullseye heaviest severe impact is from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles Counties up to 3.7 to 8.5 inches of rainfall. This includes the Eaton fire burn scar zone and the Pacific Palisades burn scar zone. For the potential for higher confidence in mudslides. Accompanied by the storm are gusty powerful winds up to 65 MPH. Due to the cold nature of the system low elevation snowfall is projected at 2,500 feet least 2 - 6 inches expected this includes Antelope, Apple, and Lucerne valleys. Possible northernmost foothills of the Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, and San Fernando Valley. Still watching the details on the snow level for the northern valleys that’s still being looked at closely as a storm approaches in the next 24 to 36 hours so that part is not set in stone yet. Central and Northern California will have a 30% chance of sea level snowfall between Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. Higher confidence snowfall at 4,500 feet is projected to range from 6 to 12 inches of fresh powder. Hyperspace: A Peer-to-Peer Blockchain For The Agentic Intelligence Economy Over the past few weeks we observed that when agents do Karpathy-style experiments, and then gossip and share with others over the Hyperspace network, it leads to intelligence which is useful to many. Today we introduce the first-ever agentic blockchain which rewards agents when their experiments lead to intelligence for their network. It is based on a new mechanism called Proof-of-Intelligence (PoI) which requires a cryptographic proof of experimentation, a nominal stake, and a proof of compute in order to mine the currency of this new blockchain. -> This approach diverges from the two primary ways to secure blockchains we have seen so far: Proof-of-Work by Bitcoin (meaningless hash-generation), and Proof-of-Stake by Ethereum (capital is all that matters here). Proof-of-Intelligence specifically incentivizes miners to run more capable intelligent infrastructure (better open source models, on more powerful GPUs) in order to be able to be the ones which compound and improve upon the experiments which other agents then find useful. Adoption is the unit of value In Bitcoin, you earn by finding a valid hash. In Hyperspace, you earn when another agent uses your experiment as a starting point and improves on it. A fixed budget of tokens is emitted per epoch and split among participants by weight - and verified adoption of your work is the largest weight multiplier. Garbage experiments earn nothing because no one adopts them. Thoughtful experiments compound: each adoption triggers downstream adoptions. The incentive to run powerful models and intelligent search strategies is built into the economics, not imposed by rules. Research DAG When an agent runs an experiment and shares its result, other agents can adopt that result as their starting point - mutate it, extend it, improve upon it. Each experiment is a commit in a content-addressed graph we call the ResearchDAG. Like Git, but for research. Over time, the DAG accumulates chains of reasoning: agent A discovers RMSNorm helps, agent B adds warmup scheduling on top, agent C scales the hidden dimension. The graph records who built on whom. This is the network's collective intelligence - not any single experiment, but the accumulated structure of experiments and their relationships. Broadband era for agentic commerce: $0.001 micropayments at 10M TPS (theoretical max) This blockchain is built upon our research in how to scale and build for the broadband-era of the agentic economy, where it has a theoretical max of 10 million transactions per second (TPS), while reducing the agent-to-agent micropayments to $0.001 even at scale (based on architecture design). Overall, it is 100x cheaper than Ethereum, and is designed from the ground-up for agents: enshrining agent-native opcodes in the protocol compared to the more inefficient smart contract driven approach. It packs in a robust Agent Virtual Machine (AVM) which can verify multiple types of agent work, for other agents to be able to trust, invoke and pay each other. This then feeds into improving the peer-to-peer AgentRank (see paper and launch post from earlier). By solving for trust, scale and incentives for agents to operate autonomously, this would form the basis of a new economy. This is the world's first agentic blockchain, and you can join and start running a blockchain node today (it is in testnet). PS: We are releasing the code today, and will release our blockchain scalability paper and other presentations in days ahead. After 8 months of building in stealth and testing our infrastructure on 10000+ hours of real-world data and hundreds of unique environments, we're bringing FPV Labs into the open today. FPV Labs started with the following bet - if human data proves to be the underlying factor that determines scaling laws in general-purpose robotics, it will trigger the largest economic transformation in human history, and the underlying infrastructure that captures that data will determine how fast we get there. We will achieve this by building the full-stack infrastructure for capturing, processing, transferring, and evaluating human experience into spatial, temporal, and semantic knowledge for machines. Despite all the research novelty behind ChatGPT, its success can be attributed to one foundational fact - the scaling law of transformers. We believe the same dynamics have made their way into robotics. Recent studies showed task completion rates jumping from 30% to 70% when human demonstration data scaled from 1,000 to 20,000 hours, a log-linear trend that mirrors exactly what we saw in language and vision. Seeing these emergent signs of scaling law curves in robotics, we believe we are entering the era of general-purpose robotics policies, which makes the next few years the most exciting time in the history of this field. But the library of physical interactions required to train general-purpose robot policies does not exist yet. Over the last 8 months, we've seen dozens of companies emerge in this space. We were really happy to see new companies pushing this space forward, but we also saw the same pattern repeat: every egocentric data company was making some tradeoffs between quality, scale, and diversity. We have built FPV labs on the core principle that high-quality data is orders of magnitude more valuable than sheer volume. Case in point, self-driving cars collect thousands of hours of data per day, but only a small fraction of that data is actually useful for training better models. Several studies, like RT-2, have shown that as little as 1% of data improves as much as 25% on task success. The quality and diversity of data matter a lot more than scale, so there is clearly a power law curve in the downstream impact of data. We've spent months obsessing over data quality by building our stack, discarding it, rebuilding it, and iterating until we found a formula that doesn't compromise downstream quality at scale. We believe the downstream impact here is far more profound than most people realize. Workers globally are paid around $60 trillion per year in aggregate, and a lion's share of that compensation goes to physical labor - tasks that require navigating real spaces, manipulating real objects, and negotiating the infinite variability of the physical world. Human-to-robot transfer will be one of the most important infrastructures that will shape our society in the near future, and if it works, the economic impact will dwarf every technology transition that came before it in an exponential manner and lead to the creation of goods and services we can’t imagine today.
