The Coalition has serious concerns about Labor’s clumsy effort to stamp out antisemitism. As drafted, it fails two basic tests: does it eradicate antisemitism, and does it crack down on radical Islamic extremism? Right now, it fails both. There are more than 500 pages and the term “radical Islam” is not mentioned once. If the Prime Minister cannot name the problem, he cannot tackle it. In the parliamentary inquiry, the Attorney General’s Department could not explain whether phrases like “globalise the intifada” or “from the river to the sea” would be captured by the law, nor whether an extremist fatwa would be treated as a religious text. The Parliament can and should criminalise antisemitic extremist hate preaching without impinging on free speech. But if the government cannot explain how its own legislation will work, the Parliament cannot be expected to vote for it, and the community will have no confidence in it. The Coalition will continue to scrutinise this proposal closely and engage constructively with the inquiry. But from what we have seen so far, it raises more questions than answers and appears unsalvageable.

The proposal included the same money Dana spoke of, but this time through a local channel: six billion dollars—allegedly held by Qatar as funds belonging to the Revolutionary Guards—in exchange for Iran halting its attacks on Qatar. Incidentally, this is an event that causes immense embarrassment both to the Qataris and to Hamas, which is based in Qatar and supported by both the Qataris and the Iranians. Right now, we have all heard from Russia Putin’s highly predictable and manipulative words in response to the idea of a ceasefire on the front lines—at this moment he is, in fact, preparing to reject it. Of course, Putin is afraid to tell President Trump directly that he wants to continue this war and keep killing Ukrainians. That’s why, in Moscow, they are surrounding the ceasefire idea with such preconditions that it either fails or gets dragged out for as long as possible. Putin does this often—he doesn’t say ‘no’ outright, but he drags things out and makes reasonable solutions impossible. We see this as yet another round of Russian manipulation. There was a U.S. proposal for an unconditional ceasefire—in the air, at sea, and on the front lines. We in Ukraine accepted this proposal. We have heard from the American side that there is readiness to organize monitoring and verification. And this is absolutely feasible—with American and European capabilities. And during the ceasefire, to prepare answers to all questions about long-term security and a real, lasting peace, and to put a plan to end the war on the table. Ukraine is ready to work as quickly and constructively as possible. We have discussed this with U.S. representatives, and our European partners, as well as all our allies worldwide, are aware of it. We are not setting conditions that complicate the process—Russia is. As we have always said, the only one stalling, the only one being unconstructive, is Russia. They need this war. Putin has stolen years of peace and continues this war day after day. Now is the time to increase pressure on him. Sanctions must be applied—ones that will work. We will continue working with our American and European partners and with everyone in the world who wants peace—to force Russia to end this war.

Yet, instead of firmly rejecting attempts to lift this ban, the Deputy CM seems to be pushing for discussions, while Forests Minister Eshwar Khandre fails to categorically deny the proposal. This irresponsible appeasement of Wayanad voters and the Congress High Command puts Karnataka’s invaluable wildlife and environmental heritage at risk. Yesterday, I spoke in the Westminster Hall debate on #DigitalID and I made my position clear: we must protect freedom, privacy, and public trust. Digital ID fails on all three. I strongly oppose this Labour Government’s planned mandatory digital identification scheme. In my view, it is a distraction from recent scandals and from the Labour Government’s continued failure to properly address illegal immigration. A digital ID card cuts across our English Common Law rights, the very foundations of our freedoms. And let’s be clear: a mandatory digital ID will not stop Channel crossings only a proper and effective deterrent will. Linking migration policy to digital ID also risks fuelling conspiracy theories, deepening public distrust, and distracting from real enforcement. France and Italy already have similar systems yet both still face major migration challenges. Successive governments have rejected ID cards for good reason. Keir Starmer made no mention of digital ID in his manifesto before the General Election, avoiding full public scrutiny of what is an intrusive and far-reaching proposal. A government-issued mandatory digital identity is not necessary for delivering online public services, verifying benefits or employment, or confirming immigration status. Government already holds this information, with existing safeguards in place. Introducing a compulsory digital ID would bring major security risks, a shift of power away from individuals, and huge costs to the taxpayer all for no clear benefit.

In the deal, it says NATO promises not to expand again. What are we going to do to confirm that? What are we going to do, to guarantee a new European security architecture, which is what Putin has been talking about since 2007? That’s not even addressed at all in this 28-point peace plan. There needs to be guarantees on both sides.”
