Late Saturday night, rumours about a female student allegedly being ræ_ped or dying by suicide triggered a large student protest at LPU, Phagwara. The situation reportedly escalated into vandalism, fires and a highway blockade. Police have said they found no evidence supporting the rape or suicide claims, while LPU has called the circulating allegations false and fabricated. Two major university campuses in two days — and in both cases, unverified information appears to have played a major role in escalating tensions. Serious allegations need investigation.
