The brutality unleashed by the police on protesting students near Jantar Mantar is deeply disturbing. Yet, for many of us, it painfully revives the memories of an even darker chapter—the horrific assault on students at Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University in December 2019. Inside university campuses, students were chased, mercilessly beaten, and subjected to violence that seemed intended not merely to disperse a protest, but to break their bodies and spirits. Those haunting images remain etched in our collective memory. To add to the injustice, the committee constituted to investigate the incident eventually gave the police a clean chit, leaving countless students and citizens feeling that accountability had once again been denied. A democracy cannot thrive when students are treated as enemies for raising their voices. Campuses should be places of learning and debate—not sites of fear and brutality.

One of the foreign students says, They've been offering Namaz in their block inside campus from the past few years after getting permission from the administration of Gujarat University. Who gives permission to Outsiders (Bajrang Dal members) to get inside the Hostel premises? Especially late in the night inside A-Block which is dedicated to International Students? Who are Bajrang Dal members to check on what students are doing inside their hostel block? Many RW supporters on social media are claiming that the students were offering Namaz in open public space without permission. No. These students were offering Taraweeh Namaz at around 10 PM inside the Hostel compound of A-Block which has 75 foreign students staying in the hostel. They claim that they have been offering Namaz during Ramzan for the past 2-3 years with permission from the university. Foreign students studying in Gujarat are part of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) which is under MEA. Hope they MEA takes cognizance.

Today on 2nd Nov 2024 a Habeas Corpus petition has been filed in Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench on behalf of 10 Baloch students who are enrolled in NUML for their immediate recovery. The Baloch students were forcibly disappeared from their apartment on 31st october. On 1st nov the students filed a report in New Town police station Rawalpindi where still FIR has not been lodged by the authorities. The ratio of disappearance and harassment of Baloch students throughout Pakistan is high and a heinous issue which is required to be resolved. #SaveBalochStudents #EndEnforcedDisappearances
