** Mega Parodius Update ** The team have been busy over last couple of weeks , implementing more of the games engine. WIP since last update : White Bell power up ( this is the text attack ) Blue Bell power up ( full screen explosion ) Catboss & animating Trees Updated Lazers to work on the BGB layer ( Plane A updated to 64x64 tilemap ) . Pyron has been doing excellent work on Blue bell Explosion, Whitebell power up text gfx - the slogans are great !! Arcade quality tree animations have been added. Feeding me a lot of videos so we can replicate the arcade port more accurately. Vector Orbitex has updated the music to mark IV for stage 1 making it smaller yet again , he's also added the Orchestra Hit in , potentially more samples can be added back in now also as the song now is a miniscule 57 kb. I keep telling him its 2025 - not 1990 for rom sizes haha , a professional is always a professional though !! The Blue Bell power up uses the static large sprite class I made for SOTA where it supports unlimited amount of sprites per object and detects all the reverses / flips & uses the same tile pointers where it can and crunches it down into single sprite object. We use up to 40 sprites in the Explosion but only 147 tiles needed in vram thanks to clever use of mirroring. The Catboss is easily the hardest enemy in the level for a few reasons - we also had to free up Plane A so the boss could shift upwards onscreen, so lazer effects were shifted to Plane B. The bit that caused me the most issues was when he sits in the water line between the two islands. He is quite wide and also has overlapping palettes and animating parts , to do it solely with sprites would have lead to severe dropout at times. At the waterline we have to simulate 3 background planes and sprites at that point and we only have 2 background planes. Luckily the MD sprite engine is very flexible and we were able to recreate the arcade look at this point with some sprite trickery, the water-line is now sprites . So we use Plane A + sprites to recreate him and use a lot of plane animation to reduce the amount of sprites needed. For example the face, the tail the propeller are all plane A animations . I analysed the SNES/PCE versions and we use less sprites than those versions for him so that will help reduce the chance of sprite dropout when attacking. The Catboss is only about 1/2 done , all damage states, the onboard penguin factory, bullets from Cannons yet to added etc. He wraps around at the end of the vid as theres no destruction routine in for him yet . No extra enemies in at this stage , tackling the hard parts first etc. We took the arcade GFX for the Trees that sway around under the Catboss, all the animations are in. There were some DMA bandwidth issues originally I had to sort out as the Catboss has several animating parts + swaying Trees was leading to overload so after some load balancing it all is playing nicely !! We still have loads of stuff to add , collisions are not in - normal enemy waves etc but yeah a lot of future issues were sorting out just getting this far. It's scary because no matter how hard they try to erase the contributions of Graff Writers, DJs, Rappers, and Breakers who contributed to the formative years of Hip-Hop when it initially began flourishing, none of them can just erase what I know took place from the records like it never happened. Yet, I've been witnessing the deletion of important Hip-Hop history for the last two years. Zoomers are being re-educated to hate the diversity in talent and "race" that makes Hip-Hop remotely the culture I've been studying, NON-STOP, since 1979. Forty-five years of collecting park jam tapes, battling B-boys from all over NYC at USA Rollerskating Rink (69th Street and Roosevelt Avenue), writing Graffiti, Rapping, and, of course, DJing have made me wonder if the ideas I have been fed about Hip-Hop being "universal" have survived today. I think not because some of our legends are rewriting HIp-Hop history to their liking. At the rate we're going, I firmly believe the genuine, authentic concept of Hip-Hop is bound to disappear, and I won't mourn its death. “NO way you can exploit or adapt when you play SO MANY TABLES” A lot of people think I just autopilot. Playing tight ABC poker. But the REAL work happens away from the tables. I never blindly apply what a solver tells me to do. What helped me far more was thousands of hours of coaching, understanding how real players think, understanding their leaks, weaknesses, and emotional tendencies. Why would I force a GTO bluffcatch when I know a population massively underbluffs a spot? But this requires serious work outside the game and not being afraid to exploit, even if it looks stupid. I spent thousands of hours with other poker players discussing strategies, reviewing hands, and seeing other players' perspectives. And what I do best? I can shut my fucking mouth and listen to people who are ahead of me and soak up knowledge like a sponge. Also, a lot of time went into... ▶️Studying my database ▶️Taking notes constantly ▶️Researching population tendencies ▶️Working on my mindset so I never tilt. And then comes the part most people underestimate. No cap, I spent 10,000+ hours in HRC and other programs analyzing spots where people are too tight or too loose and building counter-strategies against those mistakes. Building systems I can simply execute. AGAIN, NOT blindly following GTO strategies. A lot of the outputs I found were useless, and I would never consider applying them. That created massive automatisms in my game. I don’t need 20 seconds to make a big exploitative adjustment. I often need one second. Because I’ve built deep patterns of recognition over many years. One example: After researching huge database samples across all stakes, I realized that facing a 3-barrel, especially after a big flop sizing, followed by a big river bet (80%+), is massively underbluffed population-wise. So when I face this spot, I simply fold most bluffcatchers without hesitation. Boom, next spot. You waste 20 seconds, I need 1 second. This irritates many GTO warriors because they can’t distinguish between theoretical poker and realistic poker. Of course, at Highstakes, you will find players who overbluff. That’s why I constantly review big final tables, study my own hands, and take notes every single week. But my biggest focus will always be exploiting weaker opponents, recreationals, and bad regulars. That’s where the money is made. I put my ego aside. If some elite players re-exploit me because of my exploitative style, fine. So be it. I’d rather crush 90 out of 100 players and lose a bit against the other 10 than try to play some perfectly balanced theoretical strategy against everyone. And again, people think this takes a huge amount of in-game time. It doesn’t. Humans are patterns. You play against the same player types over and over again: 🪨Nits 🤪Maniacs 😺Weak regulars 🧠Solid regs 🐟Fish 🐳Whales You learn to adapt within seconds. Of course, my winrate would probably be higher if I played 10-15 tables instead of 20-25. But my hourly rate would be lower. And you don’t need to jump to 20 tables. This approach can already massively help when moving: from 1to 5 tables from 3 to 5 tables from 8 to 10 tables Very often, players study spots that barely matter in reality. Take bluffcatching, for example. Why waste 15-20 seconds trying to find the “perfect GTO bluffcatcher” when the population simply doesn’t bluff enough? Just call hands that beat value. And if someone is a maniac? Call all your bluffcatchers. No player bluffs at correct frequencies anyway. All the randomizing, overthinking, and solver worship often becomes completely unnecessary in real games. This was my first time getting to directly contribute to a jnmartin N64 port, and it was an absolute honor for me to be involved with his incredible work. There is nobody else who I have ever met with the cross-architecture knowledge of BOTH the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64, combined with the raw grit, tenacity, and attention to detail required to pull this off and do the source material justice. Not only did I get to take my SH4ZAM library for DC math gainz out for a ride with MK64, but I also brought some new routines back from MK64 so everyone can use them! Finally, I got to be involved in laying the foundation for future jnmartin N64 ports, now that we have an optimized, accelerated audio and video back-end for various libultra functionality, including Fast3D. You can already see how much this has benefited future work based on how quickly jnmartin was able to get StarFox 64 up and running on DC... The man doesn't sleep, no. lol. Today we have heard some outstanding speeches from NATO ally leaders. However, this one from the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, was the one that spoke to me for sure. I think it’s time to stop pretending to ourselves that the U.S. is anything but an impediment to solving this existential threat, to the welfare and safety of all our citizens. Let me quote Sun Tzu's The Art of War. ‘All warfare is based on deception’ and for sure, Putin has waged a war of deception. He projected the historical power of the mighty Red army in a bid to quickly overrun Ukraine. He attempted to do it with untrained poorly equipped troops, on out of date rations. Putin rolled the dice thinking NATO would not commit troops to help defend Ukraine and he was right. What he didn’t plan for, was the lion spirit of the Ukrainian people and the ingenuity of their military engineers. Their work with drones and sea drones has redefined battlefield strategy. Once allies started providing javelin anti-tank missiles and supporting artillery, the game changed. They prevented the Russians from achieving air superiority? And the Russian Black Sea Fleet had to retreat from port. It is testament to the Ukrainian army and air force, Russia has been held back against all the odds. Let’s be clear, the military has achieved what it has, not because of us, but in-spite of us. We have only given them enough weapons to hold the bear back, not to evict it. There were constant delays, waiting on artillery shells, HIMARS and ATACMS, as well as tanks and F16s. WE HAVE LET THEM DOWN. Yet these brave men and women have innovated and made do, to defend not only their country, but our borders too. WE OWE THEM BIG TIME. Not with words and sympathy, but with the proper tools to get the job done. America has disgracefully walked away and aligned with our enemy. The U.S. president’s pet, Elon Musk along with JD Vance, have meanwhile actively supported far right political parties in Europe. Then Vance had the audacity to turn up and lecture us on our own doorstep. What was our answer? ‘Please don’t hurt us’. This week, we see a slow procession of European leaders making the pilgrimage to the court of Mad King Don for a humiliation session. Pardon my French but ‘f*ck that’, it’s time to stand tall and tell Trump to ‘f*ck right off’ and if it were me. I’d tell him to take his airbases with him too and cancel all military arms contracts. If he wants access to Ukrainian minerals that’s fine. Ukraine HAS NO DEBT with the U.S. They simply have the thanks of a grateful nation. There was no loan agreement. If he wants mineral rights, then provide an arms package as a down payment for future revenues. Leave the deal on the table for a week and if it’s not signed, pull the deal. Then they get nothing and in addition, no bids will be accepted from US companies for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war. Now that’s the art of the deal. As for NATO allies, Trump is walking away regardless, so Europe needs to get its act together NOW. Seize Russian assets and use the funds to fire up the European military industrial base. This will create jobs and growth, while capacity is expanded in all countries with an arms manufacturing capability. In the meantime, we already have the ability, especially if Poland steps up, to defend against any increased Russian aggression. The British military has already said, if it were needed, we would meet that threat head on today. If this collective approach is taken, the Russian army in Ukraine could be crushed just as crushed the Iraqi army in Desert Storm. It’s time to show the Americans their services are no longer required. Then when the war is over, we can look to promote the Euro as the new global reserve currency. No harm in ambition I say. We need to believe in ourselves. It’s time to get the job done and show the world FAFO. There’s only one village idiot in this town and it’s not Zelenskyy. I rest my case.

Pressing, transitions and goals in Canada! After the hiring of Jesse Marsch this week by Canada Soccer , there has been lots of talk about pressing and transitions in the football community. This is THE style of play that we have used for the last 5 years with Alliance United FC in @L1OMens and will give you some insight in how this can look. We went away from the 'possession' based 1-4-3-3 that everyone has been using as the 'best way' to develop players and win games. Many say this is the 'right way' of playing. However, we use the players' abilities and inabilities as the starting point and based on players produced in Canada, within our youth system, this is the way we think will get us the best results and help our players get to the next level. You need to understand youth development in our country to understand what is and what is not being taught to young players. This is not a negative outlook, it is just looking at the reality. Many mistake this style of play as just non-stop pressing and chaos. Yes, these two aspects are important but it is a much more deliberate and planned way of playing that is used to predict where the opposition will play the ball, where the ball can be dictated and what areas the opposition leave open for transitions when they attack. In 2019, I was introduced to Ernst Tanner former Academy Director of Red Bull Salzburg and current Philadelphia Union Sporting Director that has led the club to being one of the top clubs in MLS and arguably the best academies in North America the last few years. Both organisations are known for their pressing and fast transitions in addition to producing top players. He became a mentor to me and gave me insights and education on this style of play. He has changed the way I look at football. Every season we try to recruit players that can play this style that I will describe below and we do not waiver in the way we played. Every game since 2019 Alliance United FC have played either in a 1-4-2-2-2 or a 1-4-4-2 midfield diamond....every game. We have no secrets in how we play. We focus on defending, pressing, forcing teams into mistakes and transition football. It is important to understand that we do not care how much possession we have and we actually want the opposition to have the ball most of the time. Stats in football show that only when a team has the ball 70% or more in a match their is a correlation to winning. Anything less is not correlated to winning in a certain match. In addition, 80% of goals are scored under 5 passes or less and under 10 seconds when regaining possession. We follow the trend! So, here are some important points based on the video: a) Pressing higher up the pitch when possible. All 11 players are committed to the team intention (principles) and if anybody is not committed and does not contribute to this style of play, they do not play. There is no leeway on this. Either you are in 100% in or you are not. All it takes is one player to not commit and the plan will not work. If we do not win the ball on the high press, everyone is to drop behind the ball as fast as possible to restart the press closer to our goal. b) Based on the opponent's scouting we press certain players and decide if will press closer to the sideline and 'pin' the player to the sideline or we dictate the passes and dribbles centrally and 'surround' the player to win the ball in central positions. We also decide if we will sometimes drop lower for the opposition to advance so we can play behind them when winning the ball. This is done if we scout that the opposition centre-backs are slower than our two strikers. This means we will 'outrun' them in the space they leave behind. c) When winning the ball we want to exploit space behind their backline as the priority which means that a player(s) need to be passing options behind the backline and preferably centrally which is closer to the goal, players winning the ball has to look to play the ball to the player furthest up the pitch. Possession is not a priority but scoring goals as fast as possible is. d) When winning the ball we stay as central as possible with passes and dribbling. We use the width of the penalty area (44 yards) as the preferable dimension when transitioning. We want to stay within this width. The wider the team plays the ball, the more time the opposition has to block the middle. PLAY AS VERTICALLY AS POSSIBLE! The emphasis is to get the ball to the two strikers and play 1v1 against the CBs. e) We know that most youth players grow up playing against a 1-4-3-3 which means there is one central striker meaning the centre-backs one back press and one can cover. Against 2 strikers this is not possible and many centre-backs do not have the ability to play 1v1 with space behind them. They are not taught the cues to step and press or drop to protect space behind them. They are never taught at youth level. We exploit this deficiency. e) All 11 players must get up the pitch to close the spaces if we lose the ball from our attacking transition so the opposition cannot transition against us and we can counter-press. f) A goal is the best outcome based on the objective of attacking but at the minimum we want to get a shot on goal from a transition. This is a quick overview of a different way of playing football that Canada will see with the Men's National Team.
