If your argument is that I should not discourage young people, my response as an old(er) person on social media is that I am at a distinct disadvantage here. None of the regular power dynamics of real life apply here. In fact the younger you are, the more savvy about using these platforms. I’m operating on their playing turf. If I critique a content creator who gets engagement like half a million LIKES (I don’t even get that amount of VIEWS) im not the one in power here.

I also do not hold any formal position in any media org. I am a nobody content creator and I’m not ganging up on anyone either (I have no supporters, no troll armies), in fact I’m the one fielding negative comments for saying things that make ppl uncomfortable, and I can understand why. I’m also often ambivalent about them, but then after weighing a whole lot of things I sometimes feel the thing needs to be said.
