Over the past three weeks, our enforcement team has intensified the clearance of shanties, illegal structures, and other environmental nuisances along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. Last night, a man secretly took photos of me on a train from London - and admitted it when I confronted him. When I confronted him, he said, “Sorry, I have a bad habit of doing that,” and I stood by him for over five minutes after he deleted image after image of me, sat on the train - just trying to get home. I shared that video to raise awareness because this happens to far too many women like me. Women should feel safe in public spaces, free from invasive and frightening behaviour. This matter has been reported to the police, and a full investigation is underway. At the officer’s request, I have deleted the video of the man taking photos while they conduct their investigation. An independent journalist exercising their protected First Amendment right to film in a public government facility is immediately met with hostility, unlawful demands, and a complete lack of basic legal comprehension by the staff on duty. The incident quickly escalated when the facility's Regional Manager, identified as Lorraine Thompson Vangosen, and the on-duty security guard approached the journalist. Rather than conducting themselves with the professionalism expected of public employees, both individuals displayed a stunning lack of understanding regarding constitutional law and citizen rights: Lorraine and the security guard aggressively asserted that filming inside the DMV was strictly prohibited, demanding that the journalist delete the recorded footage. These efforts to mislead the public and to make it appear as if I was not being truthful about the tabling of the Auditor General’s reports have led to even more confusion. Instead of passing blame and seeking to reprimand others, the Speaker should focus on her duties.

Doug Wilson attempted to do some damage control regarding his position on Catholics versus Jews in his ideal Protestant Republic, two centuries into the future. In doing so, he made some interesting statements. Doug makes clear that there will be no public displays of lasciviousness (e.g., pride parades) or idolatry. All public spaces would be Christian, while private spaces would remain private and could allow for synagogues, mosques, and sand demon temples. This is where things go off the rails. First, these pagan places of worship are PUBLIC. How could they be considered otherwise? Second, Tel Aviv is the gayest city in the world. How are you going to restrict pride parades while also allowing their sponsors to operate freely. Third, Doug says there would only be a limited amount of Muslims and Hindus. In what society that allowed Muslims have they remained just a small minority?! They win the demographics game every single time. This Sunday morning, I ran an easy 8K on the unopened Ragigudda flyover in Jayanagar. Ironically, the only good to come out of BMRCL and BBMP’s delay is that this half-complete flyover has become a popular running, cycling, and skating track. Every morning, you’ll find hundreds of kids skating, people practising yoga, and walkers enjoying traffic-free peace. It’s a powerful reminder that citizens will embrace public spaces if they’re made available for active mobility - and if cars are kept out. Across the world, successful cities prioritise people over motor vehicles. Bengaluru, with its year-round mild climate, is uniquely positioned to do this. It may be the only Indian city where walking and cycling can thrive naturally. Instead of wasting resources on more flyovers and tunnel roads, the state government must invest in public transport and reclaim urban spaces for people. A less polluted, more liveable, and happier Bengaluru is not just possible - it’s waiting. Siddaramaiah DK Shivakumar
