Public safety does not begin with policing. Public safety begins with investments in community. Until we're investing in a living wage, health care, after school programs & violence interrupters, we're not having a serious conversation about reducing crime. We’re dog whistling.

What the hell is a violence interrupter? How about prosecuting criminals? How about holding people accountable for their actions.

People say that one congressperson can't do anything. I'm telling you that this is EXACTLY what one congressperson can do. The power of the single office is in its ability to draw media to change the culture.

And policing does not include allowing officers to beat, abuse shoot or even humiliate people. All people have the right to be treated with decency and dignity, and if the officers are not able to do it that way, they should be fired. Time to end cops being judge and jury.

Public safety begins with PARENTS teaching and being responsible for their children. That’s where it starts, when children aren’t taught or held responsible it becomes out of control esp. when there are NO repercussions. There are many, many POOR people and they aren’t thugs!

Agreed. Also, not looking at race but on things like: broken families, gang cultures, lack of religion, ethics, patriotism, drugs, under appreciation of education, exposure to violent movies. These are the root causes of our problem.

@SIfill_ ‘Defunding the police’ is making voters flip out, it’s not the solution it’ll never happen. I don’t understand why anyone who wants to children to be safe as possible would advocate for it, must have LE to call when things happen. When did socialists become anarchists anyway??

The government is broke and operating at a deficit. Where does this investment come from and who exactly is going to stop runaway government spending?
