Public schools focus on memorization when they should focus on the process of thinking critically. It is the core difference between the education children should receive, and the indoctrination they do receive. Our kids deserve better.

We need every able, child-rearing household (and any able’d child) to get in on this/something like it — STAT! @YuriABezmenov told us (search his interview) it takes 20 YEARS, of quality education, to UNf*ck a nation. The clock starts at critical mass, not a few. Not affiliated.

Nonsense. Kids need to learn (yes, memorize) fundamentals in math, reading, writing, history, science, and music before being pushed to apply “critical thinking/theory” to subjects.

Process of thinking critically? You mean like Bush 43's policy of woke learning? My grandson knew 5+5=10, but got hung up when teacher quizzed him about WHY 5+5=10. He counted five fingers on one hand and five fingers on the other and told her 10. He was told he was wrong...?

Brett Pike is dead-on about the failure of public schools, but I think he’s setting up a false dichotomy. You absolutely cannot have critical thinking without memorization. Here’s the thing: the classical model—which he literally champions as a founder of a classical homeschool company—uses the Trivium: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. You must memorize the grammar of a subject before you can reason critically about it. You can’t debate the causes of the Civil War if you don’t know the dates and key figures. You can’t do algebra if you haven’t memorized your times tables. You can’t read critically if you haven’t memorized phonics and spelling rules. The fundamentals are the fuel for critical thought. The real problem is that public schools today skipped the “Grammar” stage entirely. They push “critical thinking” on kids who can’t do basic arithmetic, can’t read at grade level, and don’t know a single fact about American history. The result isn’t independent thought—it’s ideology. When you have no facts to reason about, “critical thinking” just becomes parroting the teacher’s subjective opinion, which is the definition of indoctrination. They’ve replaced memorizing true facts with memorizing the current political orthodoxy. So Brett’s right that we need “the process of thinking critically,” but he’s wrong to pit it against memorization. You memorize the truth, you learn to reason about the truth, and then you learn to articulate your reasoning. That’s how you build a free man and a sovereign citizen who can’t be herded by the state. If you skip straight to “critical thinking” without a foundation of hard facts and moral absolutes, you get a generation that can confidently repeat whatever they’re told—confident, but ignorant. The kids deserve better than both extremes: neither rote memorization without understanding, nor critical thinking without any curriculum substance. They deserve the Classical Trivium—a thousand years old for a reason…

Memory is organized by our subconscious but processed consciously. To memorize only is to shut down discernment. That's exactly why it is a struggle to learn in this manner. Conscious breaks down, shows WHY this is true to the sub-, which files according to principles & science.

Wrong. Look into Classical model it has worked best for centuries based on readiness. Phase 1: Grammar, Phase 2: Logic, Phase 3: Rhetoric.
