What is it you do between each color layer that makes it lighter and softer?

I use a soft eraser and just erase parts that more light would hit. That way there's a gradient from darker at the bottom to lighter at the top.

Do you use one layer for the entire thing or separate layers?

I use 2 multiply layers and 1 overlay layer. Dark shadows, lighter shading, and highlights.

You can't unfortunately. I use NVIDIA shadow play that just records my entire desktop and use video editing to speed and crop to just Sai2.
