Hedges is free to express himself in public. In his country, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even idiots useful to hostile foreign regimes. What about in the PRC under CCP rule? There are lots of dissidents and people who think differently in China. Can they express themselves and speak freely? Or would they be censored, jailed or disappeared? You block free social media in China, erase critical voices and punish people who don’t parrot the mindless party line of ‘Xi Jinping Thought.’
