Saw the Minutemen a couple times, last one was opening for REM in ATL, GA 11/85. D Boon was killed 3 weeks later in the middle of the AZ desert on the way home from that tour. Still consider that show with REM the best concert I’ve ever seen. Minutemen had a lot to do with that.

It wasn’t 2-3 years later I was trying to help fIREHOSE get a record deal. Failed, but…..

As 80s kid growing up in TX I felt diff, hated my community, my school & church, jock&cowboy culture. Met a kid who moved from Cali who had a mixed tape with Joy Division, Bowie, BobMarley, Clash, Black Flag, Pistols and it was like there was a secret door I didnt know until then

The Minutemen were true hardcore DIY early, and then similarly to the Clash expanded their sound into something unique and incredible. D working those clean triads is something no other punk band was doing.

Stone cold classic….double nickels on the dime

‘Our band could be your life’ is possibly my favourite lyric. Title of a damn fine book which I highly recommend if you’ve not read it.
