Make sure you let everyone know those are blanks. This is the internet. Someone will put buckshot in there and blow their balls off.

This tractor was made in 1926. The amazing thing is that it still works.

There is no seeds inside, just gun powder.

Shotgun starters. You can see it on The Flight of the Phoenix 1965. There was a time when a number of airplanes used them.

I'm surprised this idea didn't take off. Who doesn't like to use a hammer on something and then have it work afterwards? Mixed with a shogun shell. Hell ya!

I'm curious as to if the burnt powder residue contributes to cylinder wear. It's the blank directly discharged into the combustion chamber, is it filtered or does it trigger a secondary system keeping junk out of the cylinder?

Imagine on the battlefield you load a real shell into the engine block and blanks into your trench gun.

It’s not German, but British. Field Marshall is a British brand

How a huge amount of tractors and post WWII planes we're started during the era. Few tanks too. German mostly because Detroit had taken over WWII. Panthers we're a hand crank if you can imagine. But the Tiger had either or. Hand crank or shell assist.

You better hope that’s a blank 😂 “Dad the side of the tractor blew out” 🤣🤣🤣 Or worse 😅 I want one.

A simple video of the starting procedure, instead of cheesy music and incorrect AI narration would be much better.

Aircraft engines started like this too, with a cartridge. I remember seeing this on the great movie “the flight of the phoenix “ with James Stewart.

They use the same technique on B-52 bombers. "b-52 8 engine cartridge start"

people would convert their car to start like that just to piss their neighbor off these days ,

This is a Field Marshall tractor using a Coffman-style cartridge starter from the 1940s. Batteries were unreliable, so they used blank shotgun shells. How it works: Insert smoldering saltpeter paper into the cylinder head as a glow plug for heat. Load a blank shell into the breech. Strike with a hammer to fire it. The explosion pushes high-pressure gas against the piston, spinning the crankshaft to start the diesel engine. For visuals, search YouTube for "Field Marshall tractor shotgun start".

Wow... The gradual improvements in man's innovations is something to write home about. If not for those in the past, we wouldn't have anything to improve on.

Nothing hits like vintage machinery that still works better than half the stuff made today. That push to start button is more reliable than most modern tech. Simple works. Follow for no nonsense takes
