Putin connected two dots that many refuse to touch: the October revolution that built the Soviet Union… and the one that tore it apart.

I believe that the seeds of the destruction of the Soviet Union were sown in 1917 also. Gorbachev and Yeltsin were just the final nails in the coffin. However, if Stalin had more support and implemented Sudoplatov’s solution to Ukrainian nationalism, the USSR may have survived.

Yes, and Khrushchev belongs in that category as well.

All said and done, the jewish marxists had got what they wanted once they cornered the Romanovs The country was effectively an anarchy and the hooligans who came to power barely knew what they were doing God knows that it was all luck that things improved with time

There is a genuinely interesting connection here, but perhaps not quite the one Putin intends. Putin’s argument is that the USSR contained a contradiction: it functioned as an extraordinarily centralized state while constitutionally recognizing republics and even granting them a right to secede. When Communist Party power ceased to hold the centre together, the constitutional architecture suddenly mattered. But notice what his diagnosis makes dangerous. Not revolution. Not communism. Plural sovereignty itself. If the Soviet “time bomb” was that constituent peoples possessed political identities and constitutional rights the centre could not permanently extinguish, then the lesson drawn from 1991 can become rather darker than “the USSR was badly designed.” It can become: never again build a state in which the centre might someday be unable to say no. And that is particularly interesting because Russia today still calls itself a federation. Its Constitution still contains republics, subjects, divided powers and the language of self-determination. So perhaps the question connecting 1917, 1991 and the present isn’t simply what destroyed the Soviet Union. It is what Moscow learned from discovering that a union held together by central power could eventually encounter peoples who remembered they were more than administrative units.

This continues to be an internal roadmap to destroying a country from within. But it's so obvious now it's live action theater.

He's talking about how Soviet Union by communists tore Russia apart.

No, he’s talking about how the principle of fragmentation that was fundamental to Lenin’s policy ultimately fragmented Russia and the Soviet Union.
