Putin performed his stand-up comedy again. This time he stated that Russia is actually ahead of the European Union in terms of economic growth. Except that Russian economic growth is negative.

Putin doesn't get all the bad news because he's a dictator, and nobody dares to tell him the truth. But he knows that things are not going well on the front or in the Russian economy. So now he's on a charm offensive, holding meetings, delivering optimistic speeches, and telling the Russian public how well things are going. It's a question of survival for him. But do they believe him?

The truth is that Russia is currently in a war economy, they are printing money and giving $60,000 sign up bonuses for military. That money goes into the economy, but isn't sustainable. As soon as the war ends, Russia's economy will collapse. That's why Putin wants it to continue.

Russian economic growth is not negative and they still have an ultra low debt/GDP number they can draw on. Ukraine on the other hand is a failed state that would collapse in societal chaos if the support they receive is cut off. We are getting there.

He mentioned less debt compared to other countries! It means people in Russia are more self standing than any other Europe country…

GDP shrank 0.2% in Q1 2026 while he brags about growth rates. The guy who needs 19-week stock market collapses and 20% fuel shortages to admit inflation exists is now an economist. His own central bank forecasts 0.4% for the year, thats stagnation with nukes.

Numbers are correct but deceiving. Economic growth has been stronger because of the war, although now that's starting to slow. In terms of purchasing power, he is referring to the entire economy, not per person, which is the metric that matters more. Russians are poor.

We just recently pulled ahead of Japan and Germany.
