A secret protocol assigned Poland, the Baltics, Finland, and Romania into “spheres of influence” to be carved up by both totalitarian states. Germany invaded Poland from the west on September first, 1939. The Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east on September seventeenth, finishing the destruction of the Polish state. The two armies even held joint parades in places like Brest to celebrate their victory over a nation that had done nothing to either of them. After the invasion, the Soviet Union committed horrific crimes. The Katyn Massacre was one of the worst, where more than twenty thousand Polish officers, intellectuals, and leaders were executed with shots to the back of the head and buried in mass graves. Thousands more were deported to Siberia, starved, imprisoned, and erased. When people talk about Russian atrocities today in Ukraine, they are not new. They are a continuation of the same brutality used in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Chechnya, Georgia, and everywhere else Russia has occupied. The cruelty is part of the system. For Tucker to sit silent while Putin rewrites history is irresponsible. For Putin to blame Poland for World War Two is sickening. This is exactly how Russian propaganda works.
