Peter Thiel on the importance of pitching your startup as a “discount to the future” Most founders will pitch their startup valuation as a sort of premium on the last round (e.g. “Our valuation last year was X, we’ve made Y progress, and now we deserve a valuation 2x greater.”) But Thiel argues that this is “completely wrong.” “The value is never a premium on the past. It’s always a discount to the future. I think the way one should always try to pitch the value of a company is by explaining why it will be worth a lot more in the future and why investors are getting to invest at a point that it’s a lot cheaper.” He uses his experience fundraising for PayPal as an example. In March 2000, PayPal raised a round at a $500M pre-money valuation, which was a massive premium on the $45M valuation from their raise 3-months prior (note: PayPal also completed a 50/50 merger with Elon Musk’s x in this 3-month period). How did they get a 5x step up in 3 months? Thiel explains: “The way we presented the round was: this is going to be the last round before the IPO. We got people thinking the next round is going to be the IPO and this was going to be at a discount to the IPO. It doesn’t matter what happened three months ago—you’re getting it at a discount to the IPO.” He concludes: “Always think of it as a discount to the future. Never a premium on the past.”

my new song “BREAKDOWN.” is out on the 21st of June!!! 🖤🖤🖤 I wrote this poem because it’s been the hardest year for my mental health. In my life I’ve always never felt good enough, it’s just the thing that’s eaten me up. For as long as I can remember i have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark. It’s always been so hard to fight the darkness that i inevitably have. A lot of people will say it’s a phase and it will go away. But it doesn’t and the reality of the situation is I have to find strategies to deal with it. To put it plainly the things I don’t like about myself will probably never change, people tell me one day I’ll come-to terms with them one day but I want that day to be FUCKING NOW. This song is a message to myself to try and exist alongside my insecurities and my darkness by grounding myself and remembering what is real in life and the world is so much bigger than me. Try and get out of your head and notice the world around you, notice the things and people around you. Connect with them, the chances are they probably feel the same. Don’t let the bullshit inside your head consume you. It just wastes precious time. Remember what is real. Help people, be kind, help the world, help yourself. If you think you can’t do it, you can. You can get through this, trust me. Use this poem in a mornin to get u out of bed, use it when youre about to back out of something last minute, use it when you’re at your darkest. It’s got a little bit of light in it. Don’t forget to put your feet in the grass … Mind

It’s Dyslexia Awareness Week, and this year’s theme is ‘What’s Your Story?’, so I wanted to give you a little bit of an insight into how I overcome my own struggles on a daily basis. It’s all about finding your own path, your own way of solving a problem. 📚Reading and writing have always been a challenge for me, but they’re a massive part of what I do. I actually dictated my first cookbook 25 years ago, and that’s also how Billy and the Giant Adventure was born – me recording stories that then got transcribed for me to edit from. I now work with some brilliant editors, people who understand how my brain works and are great at helping me get things down on paper. 📚With the Billy books, I’ll work in a room with pictures and Post-It notes all over the wall to help me see the story come to life, and with recipes I’m there in the kitchen cooking, while my editor captures the words. I think it’s about finding someone you can pair up with who is good at the thing you’re not, and seeing if you can swap talents. I like to say ‘Always forward, never straight’, to remind me that as long as you're progressing, it doesn’t matter how you’re doing it. So what’s your way? Alabama HC Rob Vaughn on college baseball recruiting and the type of player you truly want in your program, no matter the level. “Our job in college baseball, yes, it's to win games. Yes, it's to develop big leaguers, and yes, it's all the things that we all talk about in recruiting, but more than anything, it's to prepare these kids to be successful for whatever comes next. And man, as good as the talent is in this league, as good as the talent is on this team, not all of them are going to be career big leaguers, you know. And I think what makes Tyler Fay’s journey so awesome, is in a world that is inundated with particularly moms and dads that want your kid to cut and run when when they're not starting every day or they're not playing every day. You see at one end of the equation, you either get the parents are like, ‘Hey man, put your head down to work. We got to get better.’ And you get the parents that feed into the narrative, ‘man, they're not giving you a chance. You got to go. PITCH FORK released a article on Young Dabo diss on Jane Remover calling it evil 👀 “Full of transphobic and misogynistic bars, the streamer’s new song is the sound of the manosphere.” “the Dabo diss feels like the release of an energy that has been fermenting in the underground for years, a generation of kids that grew up on the hedonism of Opium and the general manosphere and look at their allegations not as an irredeemable knock but proof of their masculinity and the way society punishes that masculinity. Texas A&M HC Mike Elko - Building Defensive IQ for Winning Situational Football "It starts to me with you have to develop football 101 in your defense. You've got to take a step back & you've got to build some level of general football knowledge in your defensive unit. It's sometimes the things that can save you when you don't call the perfect defense/scheme. Down & Distance Understanding... 2nd & 7+ - We have won 1st down... The offense is now trying to get themselves back in favorable positions for 3rd down. Here the battle is for half the yardage. - Offensively you will see a lot of RPOs, Quick Game, Screen & Draw. This is not a down where you will see a lot of high risk types of offensive plays. - Defensively we play this down & distance like a 3rd down off 1/2 the yardage... (2nd & 8 is like 3rd & 4, 2nd & 14 is like 3rd & 7) 2nd & 4-6 - We have lost 1st down. Now we must make a play on 2nd down to try to re-create an advantage for 3rd down. Success on this down is similar to 1st & 10. We are looking to hold them to 3 or less. - This is a down where the offense usually sticks to their strengths. Again, they are looking for a low risk play that will keep the chains moving forward. - For us we call this D&D no different than 1st down. 2nd & 1-3 (Waste) - Thus for the offense is known as a waste down. This is a D&D where the offense is likely to take a deep shot because they are in a favorable position for 3rd down. - Offenses will try double moves & max protection shot plays a lot on this D&D - For us on defense, this is a big zone pressure down.
