Q on early release.. Following this ‘non answer’ I am now convinced that this @uklabour Govt.intend to include rapists in their ‘early release scheme’. This is a shocking decision affecting so many victims of the ‘rape gangs !!

Today, in Parliament, I asked the Justice Minister an incredibly serious question. I sought confirmation that the government will not release early from prison Fiona Goddard’s perpetrators. This follows a letter, Fiona and many other victims and survivors have received from government which outlined they intend to assess whether to release early from prison many of those who carried out the most serious sexual offences, including gang rape. This has caused huge amounts of stress and anxiety. It is also fundamentally wrong. Rather than answering my direct question, the Minister responds with a political answer. This government is an absolute disgrace.

We need FULL transparency on the rape gangs, urgently - I've been pushing for that in Parliament today. Will they release the court transcripts? How many foreign rapists have been deported? Remain in prison? Walk the same streets as their victims? Reoffenders? Didn't serve a custodial sentence? A full nationality breakdown? My questions to Government so far have been met with complete refusals. I put this to the Home Secretary. I will be judging the Government on their actions, not on their words. This is a rotting stain on our country. Show us the ugly truth.

PC Andrew Harper’s mum has said she felt “crushed” when she discovered that her son’s killers were eligible to be freed from prison early under the government’s early release scheme. Debbie Adlam said she has “gone through every emotion”, but feels “better now in that I don't feel quite so alone”, as a petition to prevent their early release exceeded 440,000 signatures. She said that the early release of PC Harper’s killers could make emergency workers feel “completely unvalued”.

The Health Secretary said she understands victims and the public will want the perpetrators of crimes to serve their full sentences, but the lack of prison places means some must be released to ensure there is space for those who commit serious crimes. Under the early release scheme, thousands of prisoners will be eligible for release part way through their sentences. The Government ordered a review into the policy when it emerged that PC Andrew Harper's killers, who were convicted of manslaughter, would be eligible for the scheme.

Speaking with Victoria Derbyshire on BBC Newsnight, I expressed by deep concern that this Labour government is considering releasing rapists, paedophiles and grooming gang perpetrators early from Prison, without them serving their full sentences. Many victims and survivors of some of the most horrendous sexual crimes have received letters from the government informing them that their perpetrators may be released from prison early. Just the possibility of it happening is already having a hugely damaging impact on those victims who have already suffered far too much. Trust in the state is being further eroded. Shame on this Labour government for even considering it. It must not happen. The government must reverse their decision.
