🟢 Hamas Co-Founder Hassan Yousef Freed After Over Two Years in Israeli Detention Without Charge Hassan Yousef, 71, a co-founder and senior leader of Hamas in the occupied West Bank, was released by Israeli authorities on Thursday after more than two years held without trial, his son Owais Yousef told AFP. Yousef was freed near the southern West Bank city of Hebron and taken to a hospital in Ramallah, where he resides, after his health deteriorated in custody. AFP footage showed him in a hospital bed with one arm in a sling. “I can’t sleep because of the pain,” he told a well-wisher by phone. He had been held in administrative detention since his arrest near Ramallah in October 2023, part of a massive wave of arbitrary detentions in the West Bank following the start of the war on Gaza. The system allows Israel to hold Palestinians for renewable six-month periods without charge or trial. His detention was renewed five consecutive times. Yousef has spent more than 25 years in Israeli prisons across an estimated 16 arrests, beginning at age 16. He was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council in 2006 and was exiled to Marj al-Zuhur in southern Lebanon in 1992 alongside other Hamas and Islamic Jihad figures. In a statement, Hamas saluted Yousef as “an inspiring national figure and a symbol of patience and perseverance, who has spent more than twenty years in the occupation’s prisons, during which he remained steadfast in his principles and continued to defend the rights of his people, despite being subjected to isolation, torture, and medical neglect.” The group said the prisoners’ cause “will remain at the top of our priorities until their freedom is secured and the occupation’s prisons are emptied.” Senior Hamas official Basem Naim called Yousef “one of the mountains of Palestine,” writing that “despite spending around 25 years in prison unjustly, most of it under administrative sentences without charges, his will was not broken and his resolve did not weaken.”

Mahdawi is a green card holder who grew up in a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. 🚨BREAKING: The man shot by ICE agents in California went MISSING, after an eye witness came forward directly contradicting DHS’s version of events… And when he finally resurfaced, a judge ordered his RELEASE... only for the government immediately appealed that decision. Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, who was NOT a gang member, or murderer, as DHS claimed, was shot SIX TIMES by ICE, underwent multiple surgeries, the very next day was discharged from the hospital, and immediately taken into federal custody. And then, his own attorney could not locate him, and wasn’t given any information on his condition. Tuesday, his criminal complaint was unsealed, he went to court, and a judge ordered his release. The government then stepped in to appeal that order, and keep him detained… claiming he’s “a danger to the community if released.” Because he drove his car “close to the bodies of the ICE agents” after attempting to flee. Federal agents claim this was a “targeted stop” and that they opened fire in self-defense after he “weaponized” his car. But, a civilian witness, with dashcam footage, says something very different… and her account matches Hernandez’s. She says agents were already surrounding his car, striking his window… when a single shot rang out. The car THEN began to back up, trying to leave, and multiple shots followed in rapid succession. He did not try to hit agents with his car… he only reversed AFTER a gun was fired at him. And in the video, you can see the agent does, in fact, have his gun pulled, aiming at Hernandez, before he reverses. Hernandez told his attorney the same thing from his hospital bed… that he pulled over, handed over his license, asked to call his wife… an agents fired their weapon, and THEN he drove away in fear. Two separate accounts. Same sequence. ICE shoots first… then claims self-defense. The witness also says agents were pointing guns into active traffic, at random cars, putting everyone on that road at risk… Again, showing that ICE agents are the real danger to communities. But, what makes this more alarming is the custody timeline… Hernandez was shot, hospitalized, transferred into federal custody, disappeared from contact with his attorney, then reappeared in court where a judge ordered his release, only for the government to immediately appeal and continue fighting his detention. That raises serious questions about due process, and transparency in federal custody, after a use-of-force incident. Because at every stage, the “facts” being asserted by DHS are being directly challenged by eyewitness accounts, physical footage, and now, even the procedural outcome in court.

A couple of days ago, Husam al-Astal, leader of the anti-Hamas Popular Forces militia, revealed that a member of Hamas had defected to join his organization. The defector, Hamza Mahra, said he is the son of Sheikh Arab Mahra, a founding member of Hamas. He also said he was a Nukhba (elite) member of Hamas' the Martyr Abdul Raouf Nabhan battalion (Jabalia, northern Gaza).
