The first website is what got my attention to try the product though — now a paying user — not sure I would have been captivated by the new one...

This is interesting, so you just signed up for the previous product/website just because it was shiny, not necessarily by thinking it could solve a problem of yours?

Old website was too ambitious but a bit of animation doesn't hurt if erll optimized

Although the previous over-animated site was great visually, the new one is so much better. Really liking the new site.

@hnshah 1) did it result in better conversion rates? 2) could they have changed their original website in ways that made it better without scrapping the entire idea? Don’t know enough to have an opinion on the change, but these feel like important questions to me.

Agreed. But a cool tidbit is they've even left their old homepage live under /art—and that's exactly what it is. I found out through my little tool that scanned its sitemap. Full report linked here:

This - you don’t need a fancy site but solid demos and great sales team.

First version got attention while it was new. I know them because of their previous website! They updated it to simple one and you posted about it - got attention again!

The old one was cool, but even for me as a designer it felt a bit ‘over the top’. I’m a fan of more subtle animations.

I think it depends on the product category & maturity. Early on, flashy pages can help with getting people excited and being perceived as design oriented, new/different/innovative, etc.

Now previously it was nice and fun. Now boring an knockoff of linear and notion cal.

As any reasonable person would (i.e. anyone who is not a designer) I would have closed that site by the second scroll.

Tbh, it was difficult to find some answers on the prev website. I couldn't use it because I trusted their flashy animation first, but then I realised it's not for me.

Previously I didn't try it because I didn't understand what it did. Now I won't try it because it looks like the 50th app that does the same thing.

Unironically the old website going viral put them on the map, that was the reason I tried the product in the first place. Did that attract the ideal customers? Hard to know, but it was definitely cheaper than running ads and way more fun.

Yeah I'm not sure same-day declarations of a home run are in order. Can we see some before/after analytics in 3 months?

The former did track attention, so I think it delivered the expected results (though debatable). With organic search dropping sharply recently, they might need to take some extreme actions on SEO

You don’t need a fancy website just a pivot to B2B.
