ICE detain wife of 27 year active duty U.S. Army sergeant—she is also legally employed by Fort Bliss Army Base. She was granted asylum from El Salvador under the Convention Against Torture protection in 2019. Now facing deportation to Mexico—a country where she's never lived. U.S. service members can't travel to Mexico—so if she is deported he will have to either leave his Army career or his wife. "ICE is out of control right now, taking away rights, as soldiers, that we have," said Sergeant First Class Jose Serrano. He suffered from a traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and depression after serving in Afghanistan—and his mental health has severely declined after his wife's arrest. Deisy Rivera Ortega is currently locked up at the El Paso Processing Center in Texas.
