Something like 700,000+ Albertans signed one of two petitions asking for a vote on a question about Independence/separation. That is ~28% of the voters in Alberta, hardly insignificant and cannot be ignored. A vote to start the process to have an Independence vote is the beginning of a negotiation process to change Alberta’s relationship with the rest of Canada. Previous efforts such as the Meech Lake Constitutional Conference, requests for a Triple - E senate, a more balanced house of commons have either failed, or been ignored. The past 11 years have been a steady barrage of policies and laws to override Alberta’s rights as a province and bleed $ from Alberta to support the welfare provinces of Eastern Canada. Time for this abuse to end.
