Student: “You believe criminality is an inherent trait to the black race.” Charlie: “NO, I don’t. They weren’t that way in the 1940s and 50s. Black America was one of the most peaceful, flourishing, economically fastest growing communities in the country. It’s not genetic.” Everyone who’s taking out of context what Charlie said about black Americans being better off in the 1940s/50s of before the civil rights act needs to watch this. He explains his position quite clearly. He’s not calling for a return to socially accepted racism or Jim Crow; he’s pointing out that at that time, blacks outpaced whites in terms of marriage rates and fathers in the homes—despite the fact that they actually had to face a great deal of legally and socially acceptable racism. So his point is that we can’t blithely pin all of the black American community’s problems today on “racism”—if they were in fact outpacing whites when racism was actually prevalent, encouraged, written into law, and widely accepted.

In the 1930s to 1960s, when actual legal racism existed, most black children grew up in a two-parent home. Black marriage rates at the time actually trumped white marriage rates. Now, with all the progress we’ve made, 75% of black children grow up without a father, and black women today have a lower marriage rate than black men and than white women. So the answer to all the black community’s problems CANNOT be “systemic racism,” if they were doing better back when racism was more prevalent and was actually written into laws.

According to Larry Reid Black Americans should conduct a "mass exodus" from the United States. Black Americans are among the most prosperous people of African descent on Earth. Millions of people from Africa voluntarily immigrate to the United States every year seeking the opportunities that exist here. America has real problems. However, Racism isn't at the top of the list. Every honest person should acknowledge that. But the idea that Black Americans should abandon the country their ancestors helped build because of one verdict ignores reality. You don't solve problems by running from them. You solve them by building stronger families, businesses, schools, and communities.
