Beautiful and moving! The reminiscence of a better Russia!

Thank you Marcel.

Quite possibly the best thing to be seen on the BBC. I found it deeply moving. Thank you.

Thank you very much Graham.

Moving. A wish that Russia could be a “normal” country as so many Russians also want it to be.

This is so beautiful. Thanks ever so much for this gem!

Thank you Brigitte.

Amazing. To see Gorbachev is to think what Russia could be.

какой же вы прекрасный человек, Стив. спасибо.

I've seen this before, but it makes me so sad to watch it now. Gorbachev must be turning in his grave to see the country he loved so much back in the claws of the KGB. I miss him - as you must. 'It's not for nothing you're in Russia'. The ultimate compliment - and well-deserved.

You are such a class act 🎩

Magnificent Steve. Pres Gorbachev was a good person and well respected. Thank you for sharing this gem. 🙏

Wow, just amazing. Gorbachev was so normal and relatable. Your language and piano skills Steve, never fail to amaze me.

Wonderful. To see his love for Russian culture - it’s an aspect of Russia we no longer see since the war ramped up. I’m sure it’s still there but Russia is a pariah these days and it’s all hidden.

I always enjoy your posts especially when you play the piano, we met briefly back in 2015 at Chris Mackley's impressive pad in Shropshire. All the best, Steve J.

Thanks for following the posts. I’m glad you find them interesting.

No problem, and by the way l also enjoy your reports on Russia.

He did so much to pull Russia into the modern world. I think of him whenever I see the latest atrocity as it is being dragged back into a state of isolation.

Forgive me to assume Mr Gorbachev died burdened, watching Russia drift from the openness he envisioned. He seemed to love his music & history. Maybe one day, we see a country & not this cesspool of imaginary western victimhood of Putin. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece.

Steve Rosenberg, Renaissance man. The most striking thing I've seen all week.

Gold dust footage Steve… diolch am rannu… thanks for sharing.. and well done for coping with the piano which was tuned by the tuner of the piano in Dodge City….🤓🎶👌👍

we needed more Gorbachevs

He seemed like a genuinely down to earth guy Steve when I watched your interview with him? Every so often decent good people get into a power it seems across the world, but sadly far too many bad sorts.

What a beautiful and wonderful life you’ve lived :)

I must say Sir, that brought a wee tear to my eyes, see that great man show his love for the Russian Culture with you on the piano. You must have some great conversations Mikhail Gorbachev in between the singing? And thank you for showing this.

You are very talented, Steve. What an enormous pleasure it is to watch this. Gorbachev must be turning in his grave seeing what atrocities Russia is now committing. Maybe you should try a musical lullaby on Putin and see if it would soften him and bring him to his senses!

This is so beautiful and moving. You made me cry 🥹 What a memory for you and what a great man Gorbachev was. Those certainly were the days, and it did feel for a while like they would never end. Thank you @BBCSteveR

Mikhail Gorbachev's love for music & aesthetics! He enjoyed Western jazz & classical, while appreciating Russian masters like Tchaikovsky & Rachmaninoff. His policies of glasnost & perestroika opened doors to cultural exchange, bridging East & West through art & music #Gorbachev

So moving, Steve🥹

Old russian is amazing. Today's russian music is garbage. Got a little bit emotional by listening to that music you played with Gorbachev. 3 years have gone really fast. He may rest in peace. He wasn't really liked in today's Russia. I saw that when I studied in MSU.

@DrMatthewSweet Different times ... a wonderful scene with Mikhail Gorbachev. A treasured memory for you. Thank you.

Very emotional…..if music be the food of love, play on Steve. Your clip reminds us that life is short and we should focus on what truly matters.

Wow Steve.! That was powerful and moving… there’s no chance of that happening in these dark day’s… Gorbachev seems to me to be pushed back into the forgotten period of Russian History, Thanks for the insight .

какое прекрасное воспоминание. PS love the daily press review. It challenges my Cyrillic comprehension 👍🏻👍🏻

@gem_ste just popped on my timeline......

I’ve noticed what good Russian you speak, @BBCSteveR, and I’ve noticed that you’re not afraid to ask Putin the real questions straight out. But this is the first time I’ve seen a hint of how deeply connected you are to Russia.

Muravi po kozhe... The way he looks at you playing Turgenev, realizing your love for Russia and/or Russian culture :-) But the Russia that I and many westernes fell in love with and were attracted to - does it really exist?

I just wonder what he'd make of this 'raging ' world. What a wonderful thing to see & such a memory for you to treasure. I bet there aren't many people who can say they sang with Gorbachev. 💙

''Those were the days my friend''!

A great man, whose passing was a tremendous loss. You’re privileged indeed to have established such an obvious rapport with him, Steve.
