But when you actually look at how those teams play and what they would ask of me, the mismatches were obvious. At PSG the system is fluid and star-heavy. They need attackers who can constantly rotate positions and share the ball with three or four other high-profile forwards. I play my best football with clear space to attack 1v1 and finish moves myself. That setup never felt like the right environment for a winger who wants to be decisive every week rather than one of several options. Manchester City is even more specific. The structure is world-class, but it turns wide players into disciplined positional pieces. You have to track inside, hold your shape, and sacrifice a lot of the freedom that makes a dribbler dangerous. I didn’t want to become another efficient cog in that machine, no matter how many trophies it wins. Liverpool’s intensity is impressive, but the way they attack relies on constant chaos and overlapping runs from full-backs. My game is more about control, timing the dribble, and isolating full-backs in space. That high-tempo, transition-heavy style just doesn’t suit how I see myself developing. I’m not looking to join a project that is still refining its identity at the highest level. I want a team that already knows how to win the biggest matches. Real Madrid only came into the race late, and that actually made the difference clearer. Their interest felt different. They don’t try to force you into a rigid system. They give attackers freedom to create in the final third while still demanding the mentality to perform when everything is on the line. That combination of freedom and history is what stood out for me. Once those conversations started, the other options stopped mattering.

I’ve had conversations with a lot of youth hockey coaches and program directors that are scared to coach their top players hard and cater to their parents for fear of them leaving the team and organization. At the end of the day, not holding your best players or their parents accountable is such a disservice to the kid. They aren’t learning valuable lessons about effort and accountability that are necessary traits to achieve higher levels in the sport.
