The bar isn’t low. It’s in The Hague, serving life. That the EU Enlargement Commissioner still has to stand up in 2026 and say “he’s a convicted war criminal” while gently reminding Belgrade that glorifying him might not help the membership application is the most Balkan sentence of the year. What’s at stake isn’t subtle.
