Ray Dalio said: "It is more than conceivable that the US will no longer be the dominant power in the world in the next 50-100 years." When asked if he's optimistic about America's future, he simply answered "No." A breakdown on why this legendary investor believes this:

Dalio predicted this in his book "The Changing World Order." He identified five forces that emerge before empires fall. These patterns have repeated across 500 years of history with the Dutch, British, and now American empires. We're seeing all 5 forces happening right now.

We've seen this exact pattern before: • Dutch Empire (1600s): Lost after debt crisis and wars • British Empire (1800s): Collapsed after war debts and revolts • American Empire (1945-now): Showing identical warning signs Each time, currency collapse came first.

The future US currency debasement will cause: • Cost of living skyrockets • Retirement savings to lose purchasing power • Traditional investments like the S&P 500 significantly underperform This isn't just theory - it's happened to every major reserve currency

Now here are the 5 major forces driving historical cycles: 1. Debt Money Problem 2. Internal Social Conflict 3. Great Power Competition 4. Natural Disasters Impact 5. Technology War Winner Let me explain each one and how they're playing out in America right now...

Force 1: Debt Money Problem. The US has "this debt money economy problem." When national debt rises faster than income, it squeezes spending and creates instability. We're seeing record government debt, personal debt, and corporate debt all at the same time.

Force 2: Internal Social Conflict. America has "big wealth gaps" causing division between groups. When people "don't believe the system works for them," they reject established rules. Our polarization between "red and blue" states mirrors historical empire collapse.

Force 3: Great Power Competition. The US leads "one side in this great power conflict" against China and allies. Dalio points to meetings between "Xi, Putin, Modi" showing rival power blocks forming. This strains resources and forces countries to choose sides.

Force 4: Natural Events Impact. "Droughts, floods, and pandemics have killed more than wars" throughout history. Climate change introduces new instabilities to food systems, migration patterns, and resource access. These pressures compound existing economic problems.

Force 5: Technology War Winner. The US and China battle for dominance in AI, quantum computing and advanced manufacturing. "The winner of the technology war is going to win all wars" - determining economic and geopolitical power for decades. This race shapes our future.

When systems break down, citizens demand "a strong leader who will get control." In the 1930s, "four major democracies chose to be autocracies." Dalio warns America could follow this historical pattern as trust in institutions falls and social divisions widen.

Meanwhile, China is positioned to become the next dominant empire. They have manufacturing scale, technology growth, and strong fiscal position. As the US declines, the Yuan may replace the dollar as reserve currency. This transition is already happening.

To summarize: The US shows all 5 signs of empire decline - debt problems, social division, power challenges, climate pressures, and technology competition. We're 80 years into our cycle, exactly when history predicts major power shifts begin. What should you do?

great thread thanks for sharing

Absolutely! Sent you a DM!

Ray is heavily invested in China. Stop venerating these billionaires who claim to be altruistic. He's just selling his investments.

Dalio is a perma depressive. Best avoided.

I'm teaching traders to build portfolios that beat inflation by following institutional money. If you have $10k+ and are ready to trade using proven rules, let's chat:

Look at the real leaders of America: Elon, Bezos, Jensen, Lisa Su, Karp... how can you not be optimistic?

My shorter and simpler explanation: Chinese and Indian demographics

Dalio has been consistent about this for years. Interesting to see the reasoning laid out again.

Dalio's got a point! With the UAE zooming ahead in AI and tech, it feels like we're turning into the new AI gladiators of the world stage! 🚀

Ray Dalio has never been optimistic about anything.

Same tune since 1980.

The audio is out of sync with the video. So, it looks like the interview is AI generated. IDK if that’s a function of file compression but it comes across as fake.

Dalio is a broken record, replying the collapse of empire , he gets it wrong about the UK and he is way off on the USA!

Says the guy who has made billions off of the system. Now he’s betting against it. America is a sovereign country. They can print their own money. We are not on a gold standard anymore. They always talk about the debt. Who do we owe?

lol. While anything is possible Trump has positioned the USA to dominate the next 50 years.

Well I think the biggest mistake US ever did is to export the manufacturing capabilities to China. Now China has gained the biggest scale of economies that no other countries could match. This let them to diversify into high-quality and valuable manufacturing.

Who takes their place? Russia? China?

Is Ray Dalii a psychopath wishing to destroy America?

Dalio

@grok make a case on why Dalio is completely wrong here.

Never bet against America. 🇺🇸

I believe already is no longer dominant, and everyone is just suffering the kicking of a spoiled kid when lost their favorite place.

50 years are a long time.

He has been saying this for years and he badly WA TS it to be so. Read his stupid book on “the coming new world order.”

He is a student of history, he knows ALL EMPIRES FALL and he sees the cycles and knows this is the end. Greed corruption and abuse of power all create a downfall, none can sustain that which made them the empire.

Dalio is going down.

Doesn’t this go w/o saying? $37t in the hole and 25% of each tax dollar going to service the debt…

Dalio has been saying this for a long time, and none of it has come true yet. Unlike the empires of the past, the USA is a self-regulating entity—it constantly corrects and reinvents itself. It’s not like other empires that got locked into a single model or project.

Ray Dalio is a smart guy, but his predictions are often wrong. He’s been calling for a market bubble since 2021 and called Bitcoin not a viable investment in 2020 and 2021. I believe his prediction about the US declining as a dominant power while China advances is wrong too.

But the S&P 500 will continue returning 10% per year like it’s a bond right?

Stop talking to him. He’s reach that old man stage where his only vision of the future is the end of the world. Because he’ll die of old age soon and the only way for him to address his internal fear is to project to outward.

Problem with China is there's only 1 Xi. He himself is aware that his "successors" will more than likely be fsr less capable than himself. There will also be a power struggle that could completely tear the country apart. This is their Achilles heal and it's a big one.
