The reason he believes this is because: "It's a diversifier. When the shit hits the fan, gold does well and the other things [cash] don't." Dalio isn't making any bold calls on gold's price. He's saying you need to hold it in your portfolio because the structure of the system makes it necessary. I've broken down my thoughts on how gold will perform below.
